Predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years, Ernestine (Tina) Harrison July 2002, his brother Rupert A. Harrison in August 2007 and his sister-in-law, Grace Harrison of West Vancouver in September 2012. Survived by his loving family - daughters Diana Collins, Carol Kelsay, Nora Harrison, Sheila Petry and son James Ian Harrison ( Christine ), grandchildren - Paige Collins, Kathryn Kelsay, Michael (Larisa) and Alison Bailey, Sarah, James and Alexandra Harrison all of Vancouver and Daniel and Bryan Petry of Long Beach, California and nephew Kenneth A. Harrison (Lesley) of North Vancouver. Following graduation from West Vancouver High School in 1937, Jim served in Woodward's sporting goods dept. until 1939 when he commenced Pre - R.C.A.F. Ground School Mechanical Training. He served in the R.C.A.F. for 6 years retiring as certified Flight Lieutenant - Aeronautical Engineering. In 1946, he entered McGill University and graduated in Dentistry in 1951. Dr. Harrison enjoyed 40 years of General Dentistry in Vancouver, was active in the advancement of the concept of Preventative Dentistry and served on many committees of dentistry over the years. He was a past President and Honorary Life Member of the Vancouver and District Dental Society, also a past member of Brock House Society and the Billy Bishop Legion. Jim was an active sailor and past commodore of Kitsilano Yacht Club and later enjoyed power boating with family members at Burrard Yacht Club. He was passionate about life in B.C., the outdoors and was a true environmentalist by nature. Devoted to his close and loving family, Dad was a kind and compassionate man who lived his life with joy and integrity. He had a gentle and generous spirit, was a strong believer of service to his community and a lover of all creatures great and small. He will be greatly missed. Funeral service will be conducted Saturday, January 12 at 11 am at Kerrisdale Presbyterian Church, 2733 W. 41st Ave., Vancouver. Reception to follow in the Church Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Union Gospel Mission or The Vancouver Humane Society.
