Doreen(Dodie) Violet Christiansen Feb.19,1921-Jan.14,2013 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our Mom, Grandma and Great-grandma.
Dodie was pre-deceased January 2,2013, by Floyd, her husband of 72 years. She is survived by her 4 children: Floyd(Janet), Pam(Bob), Penny(Dave), and Shawn(Ward); 8 Grandchildren: Chad, Lesa(Dave), Shelley(Wes), Matthew(Debbie), Rodd(Cindy), Kristal(Dana), Shannon(Dean) and Kimberly(Ryan): 10 Great-grandchildren; Curtis, Dustin, Jake, Danika, Daniel, Bradley, Wyatt, Cody, Nicholas and Natalie, plus 1 on the way. Pre-deceased by her granddaughter Tracey. She is also survived by her sister Mildred and her brother Ronnie(Georgie).
Dodie was born in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba and moved to Surrey, BC with her family in 1935 at age 14. Mom met Dad skating at Moody Park in New Westminster. Dad said Mom was the prettiest girl in New West. They married in 1940 and raised 4 children in Burnaby.
Mom was secretary of the Salvation Army Home League and also volunteered at the Salvation Army House of Concord with Dad. She helped raise many other children and was well known for her "Mom look".
Family was the most important thing to Mom and she wanted us together at every occasion. She was the quiet worker behind the scene and taught us how to be a caring family.
A Celebration of Life for Dodie and Floyd will be held on Saturday, January 19th at 1:00 pm at the Salvation Army Gateway of Hope, 5787 Langley Bypass, Langley. There is parking at the south end of Kwantlen Langley Campus.
In lieu of flowers, you may donate to The Salvation Army Gateway of Hope, Langley, BC.
