KING, Jean Reed (nee Brownless)
January 2, 1922 - January 16, 2013
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Jean in her 92nd year. Jean was born in Toronto, Ontario to Olive and Edward (Ted) Brownless. She was the middle child of five; two brothers, Sid and Ted and two sisters Dorothy and Olive. She married James King in 1941 in Toronto and they were happily married 63 years until his death in 2003. They had two daughters, Dale in 1943 and Nancy in 1946.
Jean was a business woman who spent much of her life working in the hotel industry. After the family moved to Vancouver, Jean worked in the Devonshire Hotel in the early 1950's. The family then moved to Whitehorse, Yukon where she was part owner and manager of the Edgewater Hotel. Jean made lasting friendships wherever she went. She was a kind and generous person whose love of family encompassed her immediate family and far beyond to her large extended family. She was loved by all. She leaves to mourn her daughter, Dale Stokes, (Doug Phillips) grandchildren Brent Stokes (Kathy and Joseph), Brad Stokes (Heidi, Kyla and Luke), Sue Stokes-Nash (Chris Nash, Brendan and Brody). Her daughter Nancy King (Trevor Thompson), grandchildren James Brooks (Marlen, Miranda and Caitlyn), Kelly Brooks (Jamie and Jordyn), Lee Brooks (Michelle, Ashley, Tyler, Paige and Colin), step-grandchildren Tasha, Jason, Peter, Louise, David and families. Also left to mourn is her sister, Olive Tomlinson (Ron and family), brother-in-law Ted King and family, and sister-in-law Margaret Brownless and family as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and nephews, cousins in Canada and England and her many friends in the Yukon, B.C. and New Zealand. A special thank you goes to her friends at the O'Keefe and Frances Friese who shared special moments with her. Many thanks and much love go to Bob and Joanne Hawkins who laughed with her, loved her and were her special angels on earth. The Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 26, 2013 at First Memorial Funeral Services, 602 Kingsway, Vancouver. Reception to follow at the Hyatt Regency. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to Autism Yukon, 503B Steele Street, Whitehorse, Yukon, Y1A 2E1
