CLARKE, Denis (Dogg Charlie)
Born March 17, 1933, passed away peacefully March 14, 2013 after a short illness. Thanks to the RGH Intensive Care and the VGH Cardiac Care staff for their care and attention. Denis spent his youth in and around the Slocan Valley. He joined the Army Cadet program and became the youngest, highest ranking officer for his time. He attended St. George's and UBC where he joined the RCAF 442 Reserve Squadron. After graduating from UBC he took his love and knowledge of flying to Canadian Pacific and Canadian Airlines where he had a distinguished career as a check pilot on various aircraft and Chief Pilot on the DC10. After 31 years of service he retired on the B747-400. Denis also flew light aircraft including float planes on the coast. Despite encounters with cancer and a stroke, he bounced back time and again. He embraced life to the fullest and was passionate about curling and golf and of course socializing with his friends, especially at Banners. He will be remembered as a real character. He is predeceased by his brother Crawford and sister- in-law Alice. He will be deeply missed by his dear friend and companion Roslyn (daughters Corrie and Holly), daughters Cristi and Sharlene (Russ), grandchildren Samantha, Rebecca and Riley, his former wife Marie, nieces Colleen and Shannon and nephew Clayton. At his request there will be no formal service. A gathering of remembrance will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers please donate to a charity of your choice.
