BLAIR _ Gilbert Joseph passed away at Richmond's Minoru Residence on February 1st, 2006, born in Vancouver on July 4th, 1926. Predeceased by his oldest son Ron in 1980. Gil is survived by his loving wife Barbara (Gilmore), with whom he would have celebrated a 50th wedding anniversary on February 10th, 2006. Survived by children, son Rick (Carmen), daughters Bev (Doug) Boyd and Brenda (Dan) Alder; 5 grandchildren Brian and Darryl Kiesenwetter, Cameron and Shauna Alder and Liam Blair, four sisters, Geraldine Wray, Patricia Warman, Evelyn (John) Pitre, Roberta Dimond; brother Barry, and numerous nieces and nephews. Gil served in the Canadian Army before graduating from UBC in 1949 with a degree in Agriculture. He returned to operate the family farm during which time he served as a Director of the B.C. Coast Vegetable Coop Association for 12 years as an executive of the Federation of Agriculture. Richmond Mayor from 1973 - 1990, he also served as Director of the GVRD for 13 years. In 1990, Gil was named a Freeman of the City. The family wish to thank Dr. A.J. McCreary and the staff of Minoru Residence 3 West for their care and kindness. A Memorial Service to be held in the Chapel of Richmond Funeral Home, 8420 Cambie Road, Richmond, B.C. at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 11th, 2006. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Richmond Hospital Foundation.
