ALLARD, Desmond "Des"
1924 - 2013
Peacefully, on Thursday, December 5, 2013, Des passed away. Leaving to mourn his death are his daughters, Aleta & Valerie (Larry), along with his grandchildren, Justine, Shane & Darren. He is also fondly remembered by his only niece, Kerri (Scott) and their son Matthew, of Ottawa. Des grew up in Ottawa & served in the RCAF, during W.W. II. He was a proud veteran, and in his later years, volunteered at the local legion, in Abbotsford. As a Newspaper Reporter, he began his career, firstly in Ottawa, then Winnipeg & finally Montreal. A major career highlight came when he traveled to Cuba & Russia to cover the Cuban Missile Crisis, in the early sixties. After leaving the newspaper business, Des worked for the Federal Govt. until his retirement. He loved the written word, and was always eager to receive letters & cards from family. For the past three years he resided at Menno Home in Abbotsford, where he was lovingly cared for by the wonderful staff, who offered him great comfort; especially over the past few months, when his health began to decline. Words cannot express the gratitude & appreciation his family feels for the exceptional care provided by everyone at Menno Home. A quiet, graveside service will be held on Monday, December 16, 12:30 pm @ Maclure Road Cemetery, 33965 Maclure Road, Abbotsford.
