Gil DYCK Obituary
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gil Dyck. After a 4.5 year battle with multiple myeloma, Gil died at home overlooking the ocean, listening to music and surrounded by his girls. He is survived by his wife, Marion, daughters, Kristin (Pat), Lindsay (Dave) and Ashley (Johnny), sisters, Lea, Gerda and Myrna, grandchildren Sam, Elle, Sierra, Stella, Tyler, Sebastian and Koston and pre-deceased by his brother, Walter. He lived a full life of family, adventure and a fulfilling medical career as an Emergency Physician at the Royal Columbian Hospital. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the RCH Foundation. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 pm, Friday, March 21st at the Crescent United Church. Reception to follow.

Good evening Mrs. Dyck. I met your husband in the summer of 1979 at Malibu Club. I believe you were there at the same time. Your husband was very generous with his time and he did a fair amount of personal counseling with me. I was at Malibu for College Prep and I was struggling in a number of now unimportant ways. Gil was kind and patient and wise. I think of him often because I often tell people who I am mentoring that a wise man from my youth defined Humility as 'strength under control'. I always give Gil credit for introducing this bit of wisdom to me. Today I actually went to the internet to see if I might locate the old wise soul, but elas see that he passed a few years ago. I don't know if these messages still forward to you, but in case this missive does make its way to your computer, let my contact be yet another testament to what a kind man you lived your life with. Just heard about Gil's passing a few days ago. Saddened to hear about the loss of one of my favorite people and a major reason behind my 40+ year attachment to RCH. As others have expressed he was a human face on what emergency medicine represents. I remember renting at you parents home over 50 years ago. I remember watching you practicing your swing in the back yard. I remember you patching up our son in Emerg 20 years ago.
