Terence Deane Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Dec. 16 to Dec. 17, 2017.
Terence William (Terry) Deane

April 4, 1935 - December 3, 2017

Terry passed away peacefully the morning of December 3rd in Richmond Hospital.

He is survived by his wife Betty, sister Pat, children, Kelly (Mike) Milholm, Mike (Norma), Greg (Kerri) and six beautiful grandchildren, Shelby, Brendan, Kyle, Kelsey, Connor and Taylor.

Born in Vancouver, raised in Kitsilano, grad from Kits High; Terry started his working career at age 12 at his father's store 'Deane's Market' at 4th and Stephens. He spent 50 years working at YVR with Queen Charlotte Airlines for a year and then United Airlines where he contributed 49 years. He was instrumental in organizing the IAMAW union for his workplace in order to fight for workers' rights and fair compensation. He helped bring those improved working conditions to employees throughout North America. He was very well respected by his union sisters and brothers.

Terry enjoyed a good debate (preferably intelligent), a long conversation about politics (preferably to the left), a cold pint (preferably Irish) with friends, and time on the porch at Bowen Island with family.

No service by request. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Terry's chosen charity, Crohn's and Colitis Canada.

Rest in peace, Papa Terry.

I was saddened to hear of Terry's passing. I knew him through the IAMAW and his on-going support of rights in the workplace. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. RIP brother.
