M. Bernice Abrahamson

M. Bernice "Bernie" Abrahamson of Venice, Florida passed away peacefully on August 10th at age 96.

During the past 37 years in Florida she has been an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Venice Presbyterian Church, and the Jacaranda Trace Residents Board along with various other organizations.

Born in Morristown, New Jersey on Sept. 21, 1921 to parents Albert and Lilius Garrigus. After Graduating from the Mary Washington University in Fredericksburg, Virginia she went to work for Public Service Electric & Gas in New Jersey. While working at PSE&G she met her husband Walfred Abrahamson, an engineer, who predeceased her in death. They both worked for PSE&G for their entire careers and upon retirement they moved from their apartment and shore house in New Jersey to Rotunda, Florida. She was also predeceased by her sister Laura (Garrigus) Kappauf who had moved to Florida to be close to Bernie. She is survived by her sister's son Donald, of Parrish, Florida and his family. Along with two of Walfred's nephews Eric and Arthur.

Bernie was dedicated to the DAR and was a member for over seventy years and held various positions over the years including state regent. She was also very dedicated to her family and church and loved to travel prior to vision problems associated with severe macular degeneration.

Interment will be private in New Jersey. She will be buried along with her beloved husband Wally. In loving memory of Bernie if anyone would like please consider a contribution to Southeastern Guide Dogs in Palmetto, Florida or .
