Roger H. Theise(1924 - 2018)

Roger H. Theise, 93, of St. Simons Island, GA died on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Hospice of the Golden Isles. Roger was born on November 15, 1924, in New York, New York.

Roger began his career with Pan American World Airways and was in charge of maintaining the flight radio equipment on Pan Am's flying boats; later, he was an Ensign in the Merchant Marines and spent several years traveling the world as a radioman on board Liberty and Victory ships, including crossings with military and cargo supplies during World War II. Roger was employed for 20 years by Sperry Gyroscope as a technical writer, and after much consideration decided to venture out on his own and became the owner of a Carvel Ice Cream franchise in Venice, FL; this venture lasted for eight years and then he returned once again to being a technical writer with Nelson Publishing Company in Osprey, FL and was Senior Editor of their EE Evaluation/Engineering Magazine

Roger married Gloria Roppolo on September 5, 1948, and they shared 70 years together, raising four wonderful children. He is survived by his wife and three children, Valerie (Bob), Betterton, Brunswick, GA, Claudia Theise (Mike Pittman), St. Simons Island, GA, and son, Brian Theise (Bonnie), Boca Raton, FL, daughter-in-law, Karen Theise, Venice, FL. He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Andrea Marie (1956) and a son, Gregory Lee Theise (2008). He leaves 8 wonderful grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Rose Doll, La Crescenta, CA. Roger was a loving husband, father and grandfather and so very proud of his children who brought him so much happiness. Through many years of study and while raising a family, Roger earned his BBA degree from Hofstra University, Hempstead, Long Island.

A celebration of Roger's long life will be held later. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, GA 31525.
