William Smith Anderson II(1945 - 2018)

William Smith "Bill" Anderson, II was born in Johnson City, TN on November 13, 1945 and passed away in Venice, FL on August 20, 2018 at the age of 72.

Bill graduated from Miami High School in 1963 and immediately enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served until his Honorable Discharge in 1966.

Bill married his wife Cindy in 1965 and spent the next 53 years of his life adoring her.

Bill joined the City of Miami Fire Department in 1967 and retired in 1998 at the rank of Captain. Bill loved to go fishing. So much so that his "off duty" job was that of a charter boat captain and fishing guide. He held a 50-ton Master's license from the US Coast Guard.

Bill loved to laugh and see those around him laughing with, or at him. He was the source, and recipient, of many-a-practical joke and didn't seem to mind which.

Bill would always go to great lengths to help friends, family, and the citizens of Miami in his fire department service and he loved doing it.

Bill loved his wife, Cindy, and sons, Mark and David. He adored his daughter-in-law, Pam, was especially proud of his brother, Brett, and deeply missed his brother David (USMC), who was killed in action during the Vietnam conflict.

Bill had a profound appreciation for those who served in the US military and spent time in retirement visiting VA facilities. He also loved spending time at the Senior Friendship Center Venice "Living Room" program where he enjoyed developing friendships with many other military veterans.

A special thank you to Norah Browne, Tammie Renahan, Paula & Patrick Carney of Navamaze and the people of Tidewell Hospice of Venice for their loving care and support during his final months/days.

Bill is survived by his wife Cindy Anderson of Venice, sons, Mark (Pam) Anderson of St. Petersburg and David (Rebecca) Anderson of Miami, brother, Brett (Zorayda) Anderson, grandchildren Ryan and Caitlin Anderson of St. Petersburg and Alexis and Spencer Medina of Jacksonville.

There will be a "Celebration of Life" on Saturday Oct 6th from 2-5 PM at the Venetian River Club - 502 Veneto Blvd, North Venice, FL

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of William S. Anderson to Tidewell Hospice House Venice or Senior Friendship Center Venice "Living Room".
