Ralph R. Rush, 82, of Union and winter resident of Venice, FL, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 28, 2018.

Ralph was born on December 17, 1935 in Laurel Co., KY.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John William and Fannie Mae (nee: Hoskins) Rush; brothers, Fred Monroe, Roy Delphin, Elbert Ruford, John Delbert and Roscoe Lemon Rush; sister, Georgia Pearl (nee: Rush) Hendrix; grandson, James Michael Rush. Ralph was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Bobbie Jean (nee: Ensslin) Rush; son James Brent (Catherine) Rush; daughter Tammy (James) Cress; grandchildren, Francis Marie Rush, Jillian Bridgid Rush, Emily Paige Cress, Hunter James Cress and Sally Grace Cress.

He was a graduate of Bush High School, Laurel Co., KY, Sue Bennett College, Eastern Kentucky University, Xavier University and Northern Kentucky University. Ralph served in the United States Army Reserves from 1960-1966. He was a Kentucky Colonel, Master Mason and a member of McKee Lodge 144, London, KY, for more than 60 years. Ralph was a member of Burlington Baptist Church and served on the Boone County Planning and Zoning Commission. He was, also, a member of The American Legion in Venice, FL, The Grand Lodge of Kentucky F&AM, The National Association of Amateur Radio KG4HMP, Northern Kentucky Bluegrass Music Association, Boone County Retired Teachers and Kentucky Retired Teachers. Ralph was a loyal fan of University of Kentucky athletics and the Cincinnati Reds. He loved music and played the dulcimer, guitar and banjo. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing golf. Above all Ralph will be remembered as a devoted educator, coach and principal. Early in his career, he taught and coached for the North College Hill School District, Ohio. Later he served as principal for New Haven and Yealey Elementary Schools. His last 24 years in education were spent as the principal at Florence Elementary.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 31, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Burlington Baptist Church, 3031 Washington St, Burlington, KY 41005. A Masonic Service will be held at the church at 6:00 p.m. with funeral services following. Graveside services and burial will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 1, 2018 at A.R. Dyche Memorial Park, London, KY. Stith Funeral Home, Florence is assisting the family.
