Thomas Cecil Fulkerson born in Stella, Mo., in 1920, passed away in his sleep at The Atascadero Christian Home on February 20, 2013.
Cecil was a family man and blue collar worker. He worked fifteen years for Standard Oil Co. in Ventura and Taft and retired as head custodian at Ventura High School in 1982. In 1940, he worked for Lockheed Aircraft as a control rigger in P38 fighter planes. In 1943, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the Pacific on Okinawa, Sipan and occupied Japan. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant in 1946. He was also a life-long member of the Ventura VFW. Cecil was a quiet and honorable man who was loved by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred in 2003, and is survived by his brother, Charles Fulkerson (Gerry) of Taft, Calif.; his biological sons, Gary Kauble(Diana) of Guallala, Calif., and Phil Kauble (Jane) of Irvine, Calif.; and a stepson, Joe Holland (Carolyn) of Cayucos, Calif. Cecil is survived by seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be Saturday, March 23, 2013, at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park and Cemetary at 2052 Howard Road, Camarillo, Calif. Pastor Dan Hull officiating. Following the service will be a gathering of family and friends for lunch at the Ventura Church of the Nazarine at: 365 Seward Ave., at the corner of Seward and Ocean Ave., Ventura, Calif. Mr Fulkerson was just a very nice and pleasant man. He always had something nice to say to everyone. VHS is a better place because of him.

As a teacher at VHS during the same time as Mr. Fulkerson, I appreciated all the "behind the scenes" work he and the others did to maintain the campus. He lived his values and was a gracious and kind man. I wish him peace.

I was a senior at VHS in 1982-I remember Cecil ( I was active in many activites) he was always a friendly role model for so many students. I was sad to see his obit. In the paper-I hope his retirement has been full of adventures and happy memories. He left a positive mark on Cougar Country!
