Sherwood, Daniel (Danny) - Moorpark
It is with extreme shock and sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Daniel (Danny) Sherwood of Moorpark on November 18, 2014. Danny was born on January 7, 1986 in Orange, CA and was a Moorpark resident since 1994. Danny was a 2004 graduate of Moorpark High School, where he cultivated his love of sports, especially football and baseball, and made countless friends who would remain closely connected, even as they went their separate ways. Danny will be forever remembered for his infectious laugh and his talent for making friends and acquaintances feel like they were the most important thing in his life. His favorite team was the Chicago Bears, owning to his father's bias, having been a transplanted Chicagoan who could never completely sever his connection to the windy city. Throughout high school, Danny was an active member of the Ventura Military Explorers stationed at the Camarillo Airport. He became Company Commander for a year before retiring from the program. More recently, Danny was a 2012 graduate of Cal State Channel Islands, earning double major degree in both Political Science and History. His goal was to become a History teacher. While in college, he played Lacrosse. Throughout his post high school years, he continued to indulge his interest in sports, playing softball and, for the past 4 years, flag football as a member of the Gladiators. He also loved motorcycles and could frequently be seen riding his Harley throughout the region. Earlier this year, Danny had relocated to Alaska, working at the Mt McKinley Princess Lodge in Denali National Park. While there, he had the opportunity to further explore the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Upon his return to southern California in late summer he had been employed most recently at the Tilted Kilt restaurant. Danny was pre-deceased by his brother John and both his maternal and paternal grandparents. He is survived by parents Patti and Ralph, loving aunts and uncles, and his cousins Sarah Janicki, Christopher Slevin, Molly Slevin Wood, Jason Janicki, and Tim Janicki; and friends too numerous to count. He will be dearly missed by all. There will be a vigil celebrating Danny's life on Tuesday, November 25 from 4:30 to 6:30 at St. Paschal Baylon Catholic Church in Thousand Oaks. A funeral Mass and rite of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, November 26 at the same church at 10:30 am, followed by interment at Assumption Cemetery in Simi Valley. Donations may be made in Danny's memory to the Moorpark College Foundation to support the John and Danny Sherwood Memorial Scholarship. Arrangements were made with the assistance of Griffin Family Funeral Chapels, Thousand Oaks. (805) 230-2800
