Obituaries from the Past Three Days

Gundelfinger, Paul Dell - Camarillo
Paul Dell Gundelfinger, 86, passed away peacefully at his home in Camarillo, California, on Friday, February 20, 2015. Paul was born in Hastings, Nebraska on November 20, 1928 to Marion and Roy Gundelfinger. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to California and settled in Long Beach. Paul graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School in 1946 and worked various jobs until he was drafted in the U.S. Army in 1950. Paul proudly served his country during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1952. He returned to Long Beach where JoAnn Long, a pretty blond with very long legs, was waiting for him. They were married on August 8, 1953, and were wed nearly 25 years until JoAnn's death in 1977. Paul was a loyal Trojan, having graduated from USC in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering. He worked for Tidewater Oil Company as a roughneck. Tidewater later merged with Getty Oil Company and Paul worked his way up the ranks, retiring as General Manager of the Neutral Zone in Kuwait in 1985. During his 25-year career with Getty Oil Company, Paul was not only a respected manager, but he embraced the motto, "Service above self." Paul was proud to serve the community of Ventura as President of Rotary Club of Ventura. In addition he was active in the Ventura Chamber of Commerce, Ventura County Economic Development Assoc., Ventura County Taxpayer's Assoc., and the United Way. His membership in the Rest & Aspiration Society was something he revered. He was also active in the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers, and the American Petroleum Institute. Paul was an automobile enthusiast and a member of Tri-County Mustang Club, proudly showing his yellow 1970 Mustang convertible in car shows and parades. He was a USC football fan. Fight on! Paul spent many weekdays on the links at San Buenaventura Golf Course with the R&A group. In 1979, Paul met and married JoAnn Fields who survives him. He was extremely proud of his daughters, Karen Gundelfinger of Camarillo, CA, and Susan (Eric) Naslund of San Diego, CA. Paul was also honored to be stepfather to CSM Christopher (Debbie) Fields, RET of Clarksville, TN and John (Jennifer) Fields of Ventura, CA. Paul adored his grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew, Gavin, Gabriel, Emily, Hunter, Phoebe and Chloe. A tune, ditty, pun or limerick was never far from Paul's lips, and he often made us laugh with his "Paul-isms." So, we won't bid him goodbye. Instead, we will simply say, "Take your time goin', but hurry comin' back!" A celebration of Paul's life will be at Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura, on Saturday, February 28 at 10:00 a.m. Paul will be interred at Ivy Lawn Cemetery in Ventura, California. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Research or Operation Restored Warrior. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura. Condolences may be left at TedMayrFuneralHome.com .
