Oropeza Sr., Ricardo - Oxnard
Ricardo Oropeza Sr. Oxnard, CA It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Ricardo 'Lolo' Oropeza Sr. of El Rio on June 24, 2016 after a brief illness. He was surrounded by his wife and family. Ricardo was born to the union of Jose & Maria de Jesus Oropeza on February 21, 1930 in El Paso, Texas. He was the youngest of nine children. In his early years, he worked with his eventual father-in-law Ruperto Ramirez, where he met his wife Georgia. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and fought in the Korean War, where he was awarded the Bronze Star for his heroic actions during the Battle at Chipyong-ni. He was also awarded the Purple Heart with two Oak Leaf Clusters. He retired in 1987 from CBC Port Hueneme where he worked in Security and Shipping. For many years he worked nights at El Rio Liquor. His unconditional love, kindness, quick wit and sense of humor were extended to all he encountered, and it will be greatly missed. He was an admired and respected father figure to many. Ricardo was an honorary lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 750. He also donated time to Santa Clara Chapel and El Rio Little League. Much of his retired years were spent providing transportation to his grandchildren and close friends. He also performed carpentry and masonry projects at his home and homes of family. He deeply valued being surrounded by his loved ones and looked forward to family gatherings, especially with an ice cold Michelob. An avid sports fan, his teams were the Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Dodgers and The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. He was witness to the Dodgers' early years at the L.A. Coliseum and their transition to Chavez Ravine. He is preceded in death by his son, Richard Jr. (Ann) and survived by his loving, devoted wife of 67 years, Georgia 'Goya', daughters Maria Acosta, Martha Oropeza-Arguelles and Michelle Oropeza, sons Robert (Kathy), Randy (Rachel), Ronnie, Reuben (Teresa), and Rupert (Jennifer Estes). His pride and joy were his 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Roman Catholic services will be held at Santa Clara Church, 323 South E St. in Oxnard. The viewing will be on Wednesday June 29th at 5:30, and the recital of the Rosary at 6:30. Funeral Mass is Thursday, June 30th at 10:00 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will be immediately after at Santa Clara Cemetery, 2370 North H St.
