Obituaries from the Past Week

Wallace, Peggy - Camarillo
Peggy Wallace of Camarillo passed away peacefully surrounded by friends and family on November 29th, 2014 after a 6 month battle with cancer. She was 82 years old, and led a full life. Peggy was born June 4, 1932 in Chicago. She was the daughter of Robert and Loretta Grandy. She was a proud graduate of Mundelein Loyola College in Chicago, earning a degree in the relatively new field of Sociology. Peggy was a natural born leader who never backed down from a challenge. She enjoyed her career in the business world. In 1976, she had the opportunity to purchase the Employment Agency where she started as a receptionist. That firm eventually grew into the Whalen-Wallace Agency that she ran for decades with her only daughter, Kathi. The firm is still in operation today as the Whalen Bryan Agency. Peggy's legacy of relationship building still lives on today. While Peggy loved the business world, she had an even greater passion for volunteerism. Upon moving to Camarillo in 1967, the mother of 7 kids, along with her friends, saw the need for a youth football program where none existed in the small bedroom community. Peggy and other community leaders got together, and through diligent fundraising and community outreach, organized the Camarillo Roadrunners football team. Getting the first youth football program off the ground required a herculean effort by Peggy and the other founders. Peggy's efforts did not go unrecognized as she was voted the very first Roadrunner of the Year by those pioneering families. Her legacy lives on to this day. In addition to volunteering for youth sports, Peggy was also a tireless community organizer for the Easter Seals Foundation in support of handicapped children all over America. Even in her last few years of life, Peggy stilled pursued leadership acting as the Resident Council President at Emeritus Assisted Living on Santa Rosa Road. Her children are very proud of their mother's contributions to the community. Peggy is survived by untold friends. She is also survived by her brother Roger Grandy, sons Jim, Bobby, Tom, David, and Michael Whalen; daughter Kathi; grandsons Bryan and Noah, and granddaughters, Rosina, Grace, Rachel, and Renee. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Mark, brother Bob, and her husband, Jerry Wallace. In addition to all of Peggy's friends and family, she is survived by all of the wonderful people that live and work at Emeritus in Camarillo. While living at Emeritus, Peggy forged many close relationships with the people at Emeritus. She loved them as dearly as anyone she ever met. Peggy will be missed by those who knew her. She was a real character with a sharp wit and great sense of humor. She was tough and self-assured. She didn't take any guff from anyone. She knew what she wanted in life, and she went out and worked for it. Having grown up a good Catholic girl, Peggy will be sent off with a traditional Mass at Padre Serra Parish in Camarillo on Monday, December 22nd at 10:30 am followed by get together in one of the adjoining rooms at Padre Serra. Interment will be handled by the good people at Griffin Brothers Family Mortuary in Camarillo. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a local charity. The family would like to especially thank all of the wonderful loving people at Emeritus Assisted Living in Camarillo. The kindness and caring of each and every staff member really contributed to the richness of life that Peggy enjoyed for her last few years. She loved Emeritus. We would also like to thank Livingston Memorial Hospice for providing care over the past couple of months. Peggy was treated with love, caring, and respect by everyone who attended to her in these past few months. For that, we are eternally grateful.
