Carlos Manuel Vargas, Sr. Ventura, CA Carlos Manuel Vargas, Sr., was born in Morelia, Michoac?n, Mexico on November 25, 1932 and was a long time resident of Santa Barbara, CA Carlos passed away in the early morning of June 30, 2015 in Ventura, CA and is now reunited with his beautiful wife Yolanda Vargas. Carlos is also preceded in death by his loving parents, brother and sister Salvador and Maria "Mary" Vargas, Alfonso "Al" Vargas and Bertha "Lily" Vargas. Carlos arrived in Santa Barbara in 1952 and met and married is beloved wife of 50 years Yolanda and they had three children. He worked at the Biltmore Hotel for over 25 years in various positions and retired as a pantry chef. Carlos had a passion for cooking and was known for his talent in catering and his specialties of magnificent salads. After he retired from the Biltmore he continued with his culinary and catering skills for his clients. Carlos also enjoyed working in his garden as well as his delighted pass times watching his favorites sports of soccer and baseball. He also loved to travel. Carlos leaves behind his three adult children Carlos M. Vargas, Jr., (Rosa Nevarez), Daniel "Danny" A. Vargas (Mary Ellen), Martha S. Vargas (Daniel Thorne). Brother and sisters, Consuelo "Connie" Vargas, Salvador "Sal" Vargas, Jr. (Rosario "Chayo" Montes), Patricia "Pat" Romero (Robert "Bob") and sister-in-law Guadalupe "Lupe" Vargas. He also leaves his beloved Grandchildren and (great-grandchildren) Evette Vargas (Marc Anthony Espinosa), Annikka Rodriguez (Camilla Anaya Romo), Chanel Vargas, Lizette Vargas, Lindel Vargas, Milena Ramirez (Izayah Damian Lozano), Aaliyah Hagen and Arlene Vargas. Carlos also leaves his wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins. Family and friends are invited to visiting hours Thursday July 9, 2015 from 2 ? 6 pm in the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME, 757 East Main Street, Ventura, a Most Holy Rosary will be recited later that day at 7 p.m. in San Buenaventura Mission, 211 E. Main Street, Ventura. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday July 10, 2015 at 11 am in San Buenaventura Mission followed by Interment in Calvary Cemetery, 199 North Hope Avenue Santa Barbara, CA 93110.

Velasco, Maria "Mary" - Oxnard  
Maria "Mary" Velasco Oxnard, CA It is with great sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother Maria (Mary) Velasco, after a brief battle with cancer. She was the third child from the union of Gregorio and Esperanza Mendez. She is survived by all five of her children Esperanza Velasco, Miguel (wife Lily) Velasco, Ismael Velasco, Mona (husband Phil) Mireles, Joey (wife Kim) Velasco, 15 grandchildren Cruz Pulido Jr., Vanessa Pulido, Rebecca Velasco, Mikey Velasco, Mary Velasco, Amanda Velasco, Ismael Velasco Jr., Isaac Velasco, Philly Mireles, Justine Mireles, Zachary Mireles, Bailey Velasco, Samantha Velasco, Joseph Velasco, Brandon Velasco, and one great granddaughter, daughter of Vanessa Pulido, that she very affectionately referred to as (Mi Medisina) Madison Leyva. She is also survived by sisters Nacha (husband Willie) Valdez, Josie (husband Harry) Lara, Nona (husband Juan) Solis, Helen (husband Frank) Soliz, brother-in-law Toribio Mejia, brothers Chevo and Luis Mendez, and numerous nephews, nieces, godchildren and friends. She was preceded in death by both of her parents, sister Casi Mejia, and nephew/godson Ruben Lara. She was a Ventura county resident for over 70 years having moved from San Luis Potosi Mexico with her family at the age of 18 months. She was an employee of Ventura West Marina for over 20 years as a maintenance supervisor until she retired in 2008. Mom loved Playing Bingo with her friends, playing cards with her brothers and sisters at holiday gatherings and camping with Tio Willie, Best Friend Maria Marshal, all her children, family and friends. But what brought mom the most joy was cooking dinner every Tuesday & Thursday night, and breakfast every Sunday morning for all of her children and their families. She loved having her home filled with the sounds of laughter, the busy sounds of her kids speaking all at once, and listening to the stories her grandchildren had to share with her about their day's activities. She would often say how proud she was of all her kids! She always had a smile on her face, regardless of the kind of day she was having, and always had words of encouragement. Regardless of the problems, you could always count on her for support. (Tia Mary) will truly be missed by all! The Velasco's would like to give a special thanks to Tia Nona, for taking an early retirement, to take loving care of our mother at her time of need! A viewing and Rosary will be held for Maria on July 5 at the Reardon Funeral Home, from 4-7pm with a 7pm Rosary. A Mass will be held on Monday July 6 at the St. Anthony's Church, 2511 S C St, Oxnard, at 10am with a Graveside to follow at Conejo Mountain , 2052 Howard Rd., Camarillo, CA. Villalpando, Ernest Porf - Ventura  
Ernest Porf Villalpando Ventura, CA Ernest (Porf) Villalpando, a long time Carpinteria resident and local businessman, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 18, 2015, in Ventura, CA, where he had lived for over 20 years. He was born in Santa Paula, CA, (Rancho Sespe) on February 26, 1932. The family moved to Carpinteria in 1941, where they established a residence and a grocery store, next door, on Linden Avenue. Porf attended the local schools in Carpinteria until the start of the Korean War when he enlisted in the US Army. Before going overseas, he married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Macias, on February 17, 1952 in the St Joseph Chapel. Upon completion of his tour of duty, he came home where he was trained and employed by Standard Oil, until he decided to open his own business. He purchased the Union Oil franchise located on Carpinteria Avenue where he ran a successful enterprise for many years until a medical injury forced him into retirement. Porf established many long-term, personal and business friendships and was an active member of the St Joseph Catholic Church, the American GI Forum, the Native Sons of California and was a supporter of the Chamber of Commerce and the Boys and Girls Club of Carpinteria. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Eloisa, brothers Louie, Reyes and Jess, sister, Jacinta Mercado, brothers-in-law, Santana Mercado, Lawrence Cervantes and Manuel Gonzalez, and sister-in-law, Peggy Villalpando. He is survived by his daughters, Veronica O'Neill and Virginia (Bob, Jr.) Garibay; sisters, Victoria Cervantes, Mary Gonzalez, sisters-in-law, Millie and Angie Villalpando; and his beloved grandchildren, Michael Ortiz (Kim), Rachel Jackson (Dathan), Elizabeth and Nicholas O'Neill; his great-grandchildren, Ashlynn, Kylie, Emma, and Matthew Ortiz, Deshawn, Darius and Deja Jackson. We will miss his handsome presence, his great sense of humor, his love of financial wheeling and dealing, his never-ending feeling of being a part of the Carpinteria community, his unwavering Catholic faith, and most of all, his love for his family. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 10, 2015, 10:00 a.m., at St Joseph Church, followed immediately by the military honors service at the Crematorium Circle at Carpinteria Cemetery.
