Byron Arthur McCloud ("Art" to friends, "By" to family), born Nov. 15, 1951, New Orleans, La.; passed away Oct. 2, 2009, in Santa Barbara.
A renaissance man with a quest for knowledge, learning, and music, Art lived life to its fullest, greeting each day with a smile. Art will truly be missed. The fourth child of James and Elenora McCloud, Art's childhood curiosity resulted in his reading the entire set of encyclopedias.
At 11, he planned and traveled on his own from Louisiana to California with the belief that there was more to discover in life. Art's wanderlust and curiosity remained, and he traveled extensively across the country and the globe. Art's interests included music (particularly Rock & Roll), history, politics, world cultures, aviation, astronomy, weather, science, cooking and basketball (and the Lakers).
Art majored in history at UCLA. He then worked many years as a musician. Art later had several careers, but playing the guitar remained his passion. He built a recording studio, New Day Music, and wrote, produced and provided the instrumentals and vocals for his CD "Making Lemonade." In recent years Art was the safety officer for San Luis Obispo County, Ventura County, and the Carpinteria Sanitary District.
Art is survived by wife, Rebecca A. McCloud and family; siblings, Barbara Wilson, Elise King, Mary McCloud, Bruce McCloud, Valerie Henry and Lori McCloud; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Donations may be made in Art's honor to feedthechildren.org.
A celebration of Art's life will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16, Four Points Sheraton in Ventura. All are invited. Please bring special memories and funny stories to share. Arrangements by McDermott-Crockett Mortuary.

Although he was younger, he was my 'Big' brother. His presence will linger here forever because he embraced life to the fullest. Rest quietly and in peace 'By'. I'll love you forever.

Arthur was a very compassionate person who went out of his way to help me when I was going through a difficult time in my life prior to my retiring. His kindness and sense of humor lifted my spirits many times. He will be surely missed. May the Lord be with his family during this time of loss.

Art was a pleasure to work with and for at the County of San Luis Obispo. I remember Art Playing and Singing at our annual Christmas Party, which was such a treat and suprise. He was so talented and always had a smile and kind work for all he passed.

You were one of my favorite people, who stood by your principles, without wavering. It was such fun sharing an office with you, and I'll just bet you're chuckling at all of us fools down here! My sincerest condolances to your family,
