Larry Cobos Obituary

Larry K. Cobos

Ventura, CA

It is with a heavy heart to announce the passing of a great man and life-long resident of Ventura, Larry K. Cobos, on Sunday, August 21, 2016, at the age of 57.

Larry is survived by his devoted wife, Alicia; daughter, Crystal (Luke) and granddaughter, Mailie; son, Ryan (Crystal) and soon to be grandson; mother, Madalon; sister, Gayla (Mike); and brothers, Dan, Corey (Lisa) and Brian; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and family members. Larry is preceded in death by his father, Larry G. Cobos.

Larry was a 1978 graduate of Ventura High School. Soon after, he completed a cement mason apprenticeship which was the foundation of his career in construction. Early in his career, Larry was a member of the Plasterers & Cement Mason - Local 741.

Later in life, he became a valued member of the Ventura Moose Lodge, a place where he enjoyed his Bloody Mary's on Sunday a midst friends and family. Larry enjoyed watching various sports including, golf, Nascar and favored the Kansas City Chiefs. He enjoyed being a pit crew member for Mike's 3- Point Auto -1/4 mile drag racing team.

Larry enjoyed hosting family gatherings including: BBQ's, camping trips, and trips to Las Vegas, Laughlin and Mexico. Larry had a big heart and a contagious laugh. He was known to lend a helping hand and to expect nothing in return. His philosphy was "the more the merrier," "it is what it is" and "it's all good." Although he will be missed dearly here on earth, we find comfort knowing he is now in the presence of great company of loved ones lost. Until we meet again Larry, loving father, grandfather and friend.

The family wishes to acknowledge with deep appreciation the 6th floor team at CMH; Dr. Pankratz and the palliative care staff; Dr. Chang and the office of Ventura County Hematolgy; and the many expressions of love, concern and kindness shown during this time of bereavement.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2016, 2:00 pm, at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, in Ventura.

Had a chance to attend Larrys service's, I hadn't seen or hung out with him since 9th grade, even though at the time we were best buds, it was such a blessing to see that he has left an awesome legacy. He will certainly be missed by many! May the family be at peace in Christ Jesus.

To our Cousins, the Cobos family. Our deepest condolences. It's so hard to believe and take in but we know that he is in a much better and beautiful place, pain free. He was a great person and very easy to talk to and get along with. One of my fondest memories with him was when I was younger working with Larry and my dad in construction. After work we would stop at a little hole in the wall called Venture in Saticoy. I remember having my first beers with them and feeling that family bond. They made me feel like one-of-the-guys. Another fond memory was when my girlfriend and I ran into our cousins and my dad at the County fair. Patty was talking brave saying she would jump off the Bungee but didnt have enough cash. Larry was the one who started the pitch-ins within everyone for the Bungee jump. He said "I got five on it" and made it happen. He's going to dearly missed. We love you cousins and we're here for you. RIP Cousin Larry.

Almost 30 years ago Larry, Licha, Al and I went to Mazatlan Mexico for a week of fun. It was a wonderful adventure full of crazy twists and turns like fishing for Marlin and catching a nasty sunburn instead and running out of gas coming back from the little mining town of Copala and having fresh oysters on the sands of Mazatlan's many beach seafood cabanas. Larry and Licha were always ready for a good time and we made the most of it. I remember Larry as good natured and always willing to help. My happy memories of him are as fresh today as they were so long ago. Larry left his mark on many of us. Death will never erase that. Rest in peace.

Sorry to hear of your passing Larry, it has been awhile since we have talked but to this day some of my most fondest memories are with you and your family at the lake or a bbq at your house or on the road pouring concrete with Larry senior. Speaking of your dad, I believe why God has called for you is to probably help him control that crazy pops of yours in heaven.
RIP Larry, you will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with your family
