Janet Louise Divers, 85, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Ventura passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2012, at St. Luke's Living Center West.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be Tuesday, December 11, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. A second Celebration of Life and inurnment will be held at Ivy Lawn Cemetery, Ventura, in January.
Janet was born August 28, 1927, in Tacoma, Wash., the daughter of James M. and Harriet "June" (Thomas) Knox. She moved with her family from Tacoma to Los Angeles in 1930. She graduated from Hollywood High School in 1945. Janet married Arnold Spargur, to this union two children were born, Valerie and Dwight. They were later divorced.
Janet married John Divers, a retired USAF Sergeant, and father of three children, Christopher, Celeste and Craig. Janet and John traveled throughout Europe and the United States and enjoyed many interests.
Janet worked in data processing most of her life, retiring from Northrup Gruman. She owned and operated Jan's Embroidery in Ventura, California, designing and implementing personal and commercial products.
Janet enjoyed learning to fly an airplane, creating a home retreat, gardening, bowling, sewing, drawing, singing, playing the organ, and spending time with her friends and family.
Janet is survived by her daughter Valerie (Claude) Stilwell of Cedar Rapids; step-children Christopher Divers of Garland, Texas, Craig (Cindy) Divers of Bulverde, Texas, and Celeste (Thomas) Vint of Santa Paula; fourteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchild and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother James Knox; husband John Divers; her son Dwight Spargur; and grandson Nathan Spargur.
