Larry, I was saddened to learn of your passing today. Your sense of humor, the jokes you played and teaching all of us ( patients and coworkers) how to play stick ball in the day yard will always be in my memory. Thank you for your service and I'll talk to you in my prayers. It was an honor to know you and I'm a better person for it. I bet the thrift stores and fishing are great in heaven!! Enjoy! Love you, Julie Simmons

Larry,
Even though you've been gone over a year now, not a day goes by that I don't miss you. I wish more than anything we'd had more time together, but the impact you had on me endures and you will never be forgotten. You were a precious gift for which I will be forever grateful. Love always, Jennifer

To my best friend who has grown with me for the past fouty years, and how wonderful it has been to always know we will always remain dear friends. I am overwhelmed and I find it very hard to believe I will no longer speak with you, but I will through prayers. I only hope that (my friend) there was no suffering and God spared all pain for the most kindest man I know. I will always keep you in my prayers and know someday we will meet again. As for now just rest in peace.
I love you
Linda

Larry (Ben) I just found out today of your passing. I really can't believe it. All I can think about is our days growing up and hanging out in the Bronx with everyone from the neighborhood on 225th street. I think about the times me, you and either Carl or Mike went fishing from City Island, playing big ball stickball at PS 103 with Ray, Cuzie and Charlie and playing pool in the "hole", Chuckies pool room. Larry my sister Linda told me of your passing and I will tell you that she is distraught over this because she did not get to speak to you one last time. What bothers me even more is that I was just thinking about you this week and was going to ask her for your phone number. In any case, rest in peace my old friend and I can only hope that we meet again some day. Nick Godano

Dear Larry, I agree with all the nice things others have said about you. What ever ingredients God gave you at birth can never be duplicated, the mold was broken. One of my fondest memories of you will always be the night time cruise on the Ventura Keys to celebrate your birthday and you thought Steve invited you to go fishing. Huh.. You were greeted by your cheering friends and we all new that we finally got you. You should never have said, "I couldn't be surprized by anything". Thank you for being you.

Hi Larry: I entered a message the first day your guest book was posted. That message was meant for the other people who will read it. Larry, this is to you.
It is Nov 11th. Vets. Day. I went fishing today but I could not stop thinking of you and all the other vets who gave so much for our country. I know about your Purple Heart and I know why you got it. I also know that if you wanted an early discharge, you could have had it. You unselfishly did your duty and much, much more. I will miss our trips to June Lake and other fishing excursions. For me you were one of the easiest men to talk to, about any topic, money, love, fear, it didn't matter. Everybody needs someone he can bare his soul to. You were one of those guys. Today, I released my first catch in your honor, I will, every time I go fishing, until I stop thinking of you. I have lost a lot of fishing buddies over the years. The older I get the faster they go. I miss them all, but none so much as you. I believe that I will never quit releasing fish.

Hey Larry, Just wanted to reflect a little bit about the best 10 years I had working at CSH in Admissions with you. Remember your first day in Admisssions and you took me out to Denny's for a Brandy Alexander for lunch. We shared it as neither one of us was much of a drinker. That was the beginning of a wonderful friendship. Dan Donnelly, Manny Toscano, you and I were working together and made quite a team on the PM shift. I loved going to work.
You took my son Jeff, under your wing and with your guidance, started him buying gold with his paper route money at age 10 through age 15. He still has those numismatic coins that you had him buy, 27 years later.
Remember the first aid that I administered to you when you carved the poison oak branch for the parrot you and Dawn had; when you had your bike accident and sat there in your boxers while I administered first aid to your knee on the examining table.
The party at Amelia Turse's house for you and Manny Toscano's "grooms" party was so much fun and the pictures were indescribeable.
When Carly would come to visit you in Admissions, you and he would instantly change into that fast talking Bronx accent that would make us all laugh. No one could keep up with the jokes and stories of New York that would come tumbling out of the mouths of you two insanely funny brothers.
I was always amazed with the treasures that you and Manny would come back with after you did your hospital dump-yard diving. They would make a reality show about you two now.
You had a unique gift of working with people to get them to do something for you, kind of like Tom Sawyer. A case in point was the BBQ that you had plant ops employees make for you with only the promise that they would be invited to a BBQ dinner at Admissions.
Remember the time when you dyed your hair with some dye from Pic & Save and it turned your beautiful gray hair purple. You didn't want anyone to know that you dyed your hair, so you blamed it on Zithromax antibiotic that the hospital was giving out for the pneumonia epidemic. What a good laugh we all had about that.
I loved it when you and I would dance the cowboy cha-cha. The best song was Neon Moon by Brooks and Dunn. I never would have thought that you would have become a C & W fan and go boot-scooting.
There are so many other wonderful memories and I smile when I remember them. I feel sad that there will not be other memories to be made for awhile. Just save a place at your table of friends in heaven for me so I will again be able to laugh and enjoy the wonderful friendship we have.

Larry:
Kathleen and I were so deeply saddened to hear of your death. Your wonderful sense of humor is known by all. The ability to take a situation like a recent traffic ticket you felt was undeserved and turn it into a 5 minute stand up routine that had everyone in the room laughing until they cried was something you did seeminly with ease. I am so glad we got together at BJs with other friends and took a few photos just days before your untimely passing...how could we have known? May you rest in peace my friend...God won't have a dull moment up there now.......Myron

Dear Savino Family,
Thank you for sharing Larry with us. I met Larry at the Ventura County Sheriff's Department East County Station several years ago. He was a caring guy with a great sense of humor. He was a God send when we needed assistance with a mental health client. He would always go out of his way to assist us and the client. I never knew about the Bronze Star and Purple Heart - It did not surprise me, what a Hero! My family will keep Larry and your family in our prayers. Sincerely,

Larry, you have been a part of our family for many years. I will never forget your knock on our door, the joy you brought to our home, your many jokes, and Monday night football with you and my dad. I'm sorry for torturing you all those years and hiding my Halloween candy from you. You have been a great friend to my dad and a great "uncle" to me and Cody. Thank you for always helping me with my english homework, I would never have been able to analyze poems without you. You will truly be missed. Much love and peace.

I went out to the Hospital today. “Home One” is completely gone, but not my memories. I went down to 66. It was weird, the doors were unlocked. I went in and walked around. Deserted, eerie and quiet; abandoned. No remodeling yet. I stood in the Day-hall where we sat so many nights, rediscovering the “art of conversation.” The Sun porch where you brought your weight set so we could work out at night. Do Bench Presses you said, not sit-ups: “If ya get your pects big enough, women won’t notice the gut.”
I will always miss you, but I will never forget.

Dear Larry, One of my biggest regrets was not being able to stay just a little longer in California last year, and missing the opportunity to see you at the reunion. It was so nice to see your picture on Facebook, but I really wanted to see and talk to you again. I will always remember you teasing me as you delivered patients to the Admission units where I worked. Our common bond was that we both were NYC transplants, a bond automatically created the first time we heard each other's accents.
My husband Dan played Poker with you, Chuck and Galen, years before I met any of you, years before I'd even heard of Cam.
I am so sorry that you are gone, so sorry to have missed you, so sad that I've missed the only chance I could have had to see you and hear your laughter again. I wanted so much to reconnect with the people whose lives crossed paths with mine in those 1980's days. We may not have realized it back then, but the staff at CSH was a really close knit community.
More than anything, I will always remember your laughter, your jokes, your smiling face. Larry, I miss you.
Love, Frani (Miller) Storzbach

Larry had a joke for just about every occasion. We always knew he would tell the leprechaun joke on St. Patrick's Day. This year we will tell it in his memory, laughing at the punch line but never telling it quite as good as he could. I miss you Larry.
