Jose (Pepe) Fierro, age 79, of Oxnard, passed away at home on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010.
Jose was born June 1, 1932 in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico and was a resident of Ventura County for 40 years. Jose worked locally in the lemon industry until he retired at age 62 and then continued working for Goodwill Thrift Stores for three more years. He touched all by his tender love and patience, and his service to the Alcoholics Anonymous community.
He was preceded in death by his son, Eduardo (Lalo) Hernandez.
He is survived by his wife, Nati; sons, Jose and wife Lolita, Oscar and wife Estela, Octavio and wife Norma, and Miguel; daughters, Lilia and husband Cuco, Rosario, Isela, and Flor; brother, Tacho; sisters, Maria and Margarita; 22 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was a great athlete excelling in swimming, volleyball, and basketball, but his passion was always baseball. He was a professional pitcher in Mexico playing for the Dorados de Chihuahua in Chihuahua, Mexico for many years. The team was known for its impressive records of fans drawn to the games. Jose continued to be an avid fan of the game, with his favorite team being the Angels.
His other contributions include opening up an Alcoholics Anonymous Latino Group Office in Oxnard. A year later he formed AA District #5, served MCD, and Historic Archives for historic AA events. He went beyond the AA local boundaries to be well-known in Los Angeles and San Fernando Valley among Latino groups. He was also involved in AA events and served as Treasurer for his home group. His fellow AA members will remember him with love. He will be missed by all those he touched and influenced in Oxnard, Santa Paula, Ventura, Moorpark, Santa Barbara, Thousand Oaks, and Simi Valley.
The Lord manifested Himself through Jose's words, encouragement, motivation, joy, faith and peace that he gave to the AA Community and his family. He had a quiet spirit, yet a great impact on all those he touched.

To the family of Jose Fierro. I use to work for Goodwill many years ago. I remember your father as a very respectful man whom always said Hello. Now and then I would bump into him and I was always glad to see him.
