Gregory Boverson Obituary

Greg Boverson went to be with the Lord in heaven, Oct. 21, 2010.

He was born in Santa Maria to Alice Constance James-Boverson and Harry Robert Cota Boverson. Greg was a proud Vietnam Vet and served in the U.S. Air Force. When he came home from the war, he married his beloved Vickie Lee Boverson on June 26, 1971 in Santa Barbara. Together they had four children. There were good times, bad times and sad times, but this family always made it through everything together.

Greg started in construction, then went on to be a business agent and soon became secretary of treasure for the Teamsters Local 186 in Carpinteria. After his term as secretary, he moved on to Teamsters Local 420 in Los Angeles where he was lucky enough to retire at age 55.

He was an avid member of both the Moose and Elks Lodges. He enjoyed the accomplishments of all the different positions at the Elks Lodge for which he became the Exulted Ruler. There was nothing he wouldn't do for his friends in Santa Ynez where he spent most of his time with his longtime friend and companion, Martha Castillo.

Greg loved to ride his Harley as much as possible with his best friend Rudy Pino (who was like a brother to him). Along the way, he shared his deep passion for riding with many other friends out on the open country roads. He loved to take his kids camping and to the beach. He also enjoyed the holidays spent with his family. He was ALWAYS there when you needed him!

Greg will be so dearly missed by all who loved him, especially his children: Deborah, Lisa, Christina and beloved son Gregory Scott Boverson, and grandchildren: Hanna, Austin, Zachary, Justin and Lexi. We will all miss singing with him: Oh Lord its Hard to be Humble and all the great family times we shared. You will be missed Dad, but we know you are at peace now with the Lord.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30 in the chapel at Charles Carroll Funeral Home, 15 Teloma Dr., Ventura, CA 93003. Phone: 642-8134. A celebration of life will follow at the Moose Lodge in Oak View.

God saw you getting tired; and a cure was not to be. He wrapped him in His loving arms and whispered, Come with Me. He suffered much in silence, his spirit did not bend, He faced his pain with courage, until the very end. He tried so hard to stay with us, but his fight was not in vain, God took him to His loving home and freed him from his pain.

Vickie & Family, I am so saddened to be writing this; Greg and I were in the Air Force together, trained with the Seabee's together and served in Vietnam together. We lost contact with each other in those pre internet days and wondered about each other for 40 years until we reconnected 5 years ago..So much precious time lost. Whenever we were together we had the best of times, crusing State St. SB in his candy apple red bucket T.. I loved him like a brother, I will miss him forever!!!

May God Bless his loving family and take care of our Greg until we can be together again....

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the snow on the mountain's rim,
I am the laughter in children's eyes,
I am the sand at the water's edge,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle Autumn rain,
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight,
I am the star that shines at night,
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die.

My sweet little daddy, I miss you so much! Your voice, your smile, the advice you gave, the love you showed to Zack, Justin and I, will forever be in my heart. As I sit here and write this it is hard to believe your gone. I will never forget every moment we had together, right up until your last breath. I know now you are pain free and in a better place with the lord, so that brings some comfort. I love you Daddy...and I WILL see you again.

Gregory we will miss you. I went to work for Greg at Local 186 in 1985. Although we faced many adverse situations, Greg always approached them with class and respect. He stopped by the Local on several occasions to laugh about the "good old days". He was truly one of the "good" guys.
