Peggy was born Marguerite Ethel Murphy, Feb. 25, 1919 to Peter and Marguerite Murphy in Detroit, Mich. She passed away on Dec. 3, 2010, with her family at her side at Edna's Residential Care Home in Camarillo at 91 years of age.
Peggy met her husband, Earl Thomas Gordon, at Square-D where they worked together and they married on Sept. 6, 1941, at the Assumption Grotto Church in Detroit. Peggy came to California when Earl transferred with General Motors to open the new plant in Van Nuys. They lived in Van Nuys and later Mission Hills where they raised three daughters, Kathy, Linda and Diana. Peggy began a teaching career in 1962 at Bishop Alemany High School in Mission Hills teaching typing and business classes. Known as "Mrs. G" she enjoyed her many friends and students at Alemany.
In 1978 she and Earl moved to Leisure Village in Camarillo and she took her teaching skills to St. Bonaventure High School in Ventura. Both Peggy and Earl enjoyed traveling. They saw the world on their many trips and cruises. This past year she lived at Edna's Residential Care Home where she was also nurtured and loved by her second family of generous care givers. Peggy had a long and full life.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Earl, and her brother, Joseph Murphy. She is survived by her three daughters, Kathleen O'Riley (John), Linda Galtress (Tom) and Diana Fosmore (Terry), all of Camarillo. She was Nana to Patrick and Michael O'Riley, Tommy Galtress, Kristian Harrison, and Katelynn Fosmore, as well as Great Nana to her step great-grandson, Conner, who will miss her deeply. She is also survived by Mary Jane Hendry, her dear friend and sister-in-law.
A time of visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m. on Thursday Dec. 9 at Charles Carroll Funeral Home, 15 Teloma Dr., Ventura, 93003. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary Magdelan's Catholic Community Church, 25 Las Posas Road, at the corner of Las Posas and Crestview, Camarillo. Conejo Mountain Memorial Park will serve as her final resting place. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Charles Carroll Funeral Home in Ventura, 642-8134.

I had Mrs. Gordon for an Accounting Class in 1976 at Alemany High School. I thoroughly enjoyed the class and I remember one day when Earl came to visit our class. He was a CPA working for General Motors. All of us were excited to have someone so successful visit with us. Thank-you for your mom and dad and for how they both were such great examples for all of us.

Peggy was my typing teacher at Alemany High in the '60. My sister Judy Ross. Phoenix Az would correspond with Peggy over the years and she & Earl were very good friends of our Aunt & Uncle Millie & Stephen Prazenica; I would see them occasionnally at Elk functions. Rest now Peggy and Thank you. Phyllis Hughes, Ventura Calif

Please know that our hearts go out to the family. Mrs. Gordon was such a wonderful person, and a great teacher too! I loved having her as my teacher at Alemany, and I know that Audrey adored her as well. Her memories will live on in our hearts. We will keep the family in our prayers.

I knew Peggy as she taught my sister at Alemany and she and Earl were dear friends to my aunt and uncle, Millie and Steve Prazenica. It was so good emailing her, hearing from her, and talking to her on the phone. Thank you for all the emails telling of her health and whereabouts. My prayers and condolences to all of you.
