Our hero and beloved "Abe" as he was known to family and friends passed away Oct. 5, 2010, age 84 years old, in Reseda, CA.
He was born on Feb. 21, 1926 to Samuel and Rebecca Stern Lashin in NYC, New York. After graduating New Utrecht High School he attended Alfred University as an ASTP student. In 1944 he joined the Army and went overseas with the 70th Infantry division and transferred to the 80th division. He received a Purple Heart for combat in the "Battle of the Bulge."
When he returned home in 1945 he studied architecture and worked in various architectural offices in New York, California and Wales, UK. When his parents passed away he became a father and brother all at once to his three younger sisters. When they were married he moved to Hollywood, CA in 1957.
At age 42 he met and married Lorene Beach Seidel on June 23, 1968 in the Pasific Palisades and adopted her two daughters, Janet Laura, 11, and Linda Marie, 7. He was a terrific husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. They resided in Westlake Village and Thousand Oaks for over 40 years.
Abe was very active in the community as architectural chairman for Village Homes for 12 years, delivering Meals on Wheels, boys' baseball and basketball coach with WAA and member of the Thousand Oaks VFW. He and his wife were active tennis players. The Senior Concerns Center was extremely helpful when he developed Alzheimer's. Tennis and traveling was his passion so he and his wife took many trips overseas and across the U.S.
He leaves his loving wife, Lorene; daughters and husbands, Janet and Dino Graham, Agoura Hills, Linda and Curt Phillips, Beaverton, Ore.; grandchildren, Kevin and Shawna Graham, Matthew and Melanie Lund, Steven Phillips; and great-grandson, Bradlee Baker; beloved sisters, Yvette Cohen, Montreal, Canada, Eileen Coven, Fort Lee, N.J., Rosalind Allison, Metarie, New Orleans; and many nieces and nephews. All who knew and loved him will miss his humor, humbleness and graciousness.
He was laid to rest at the Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Cemetery on Oct. 8. Please sign the guestbook at www.pierce-brothers.com.
