Barbara Bryan Obituary

Barbara "Barb" Bryan passed away at the age of 75, on Oct. 19, 2010. She was born Feb. 18, 1935 in Detroit, Mich., to Clyde and Ester Reagin.

She attended many schools throughout her childhood in Illinois and Indiana. While in Indiana she met her life partner, Jimmy Lee Bryan, and they became married on May 20, 1954. As they continued to build their lives together they welcomed four children, Judy, Kathy, Clyde, and Mike. They moved to Ventura in 1956 to start a new life. The family purchased their first home in 1964, which the family still gathers at today.

Barb was a very independent woman who had many friends. She worked at many places throughout her journey including Mission Linen, Five Points Cleaners, and went on to purchase her own dry cleaners that was known throughout Ventura as Barb's Cleaners. Owning the cleaners brought her great joy as she became friends with so many and raised many grandchildren in the family business. Barb also loved to play games.

She spent many years as a Bingo player at St. Bonaventure High School in Ventura. One of her favorite vacation spots was Vegas where she could be found sitting at a slot machine day or night. The game best known to her family was Skip-O, which she would play for hours and hours.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Ester Reagin; brother, Milton Reagin; and sisters, Mildred Reagin and Arlene Bray. She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Bryan; brothers, Danny Reagin of San Leandro, Jerry Reagin (wife Joyce) of Castro Valley, and Kenneth Reagin of Fresno; daughters, Judy Coster (husband David) of Camarillo, Kathy Bryan; sons, Clyde Bryan (wife Laura), Mike Bryan (wife Diane) all of Ventura. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jammy, Cara, Heather, Heidi, Crystal, April, Brandy, Robbie, Brittany, Shane, Kyle, Ely; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, at Life Tabernacle Church, 8699 Henderson Rd., Ventura, CA 93004. In Lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in her name be made to Drive for COPD (www.drive4copd.com) which takes place on Nov. 5, 2010.

Dear Family:

I will miss my Aunt Barb. She taught a hungry little girl how good "green onion and mayo" sandwiches could be. She always shared her opinion and thank God sometimes was wrong,Yep "puppy love" can last 43 years, and she always let me know what was going on in the family, especially with my dad. God Bless you all, and Thanks for the memories Aunt Barb.

Love,

Milton's little girl,

I was thinking about Barb this weekend as I was making my plans for baking Christmas Cookies. As I opened the paper this morning, we read about her passing. Barb was a character and always spoke her mind. During the time I knew her at "Barb's Cleaners" I totally enjoyed seeing her almost every week for many years. She taught me about using "Zout" and "Biz" and she was always right! Being able to trust a business person is a rare commodity, but Barb was one trustworthy lady. Barb, you made a positive difference in the lives of many; that is the sign of a life well lived. Breathe easy dear lady, and may you rest in peace.

The Easton family is very saddened to learn of Barbara's passing. She was always very good to stay in touch with our Mother. Think what a reunion must be going on in Heaven with her parents and Arline and Aunts Inza, Mabel and Helen! Precious Memories. Peace be with each of you.
