Dorothy Fultz, 101, of Ventura, passed away peacefully in her sleep Sunday, Oct. 31, 2010. She was born June 20, 1909, to Solomon and Augusta Kight in Ortenville, Minn., and had been a resident of Ventura for 73 years.
Dorothy was one of six children who lived on an island where her family ran a farming and fishing business. At a young age Dorothy worked alongside her brothers on the family farm. In 1935, she came to Ventura County and two years later married Ervie Fultz, a local rancher. She was a housewife raising two daughters, Doris and Evelyn, as well as a step-daughter, Jessie. In later years Dorothy worked at Oxnard Pearl Laundry retiring after 20 years.
In 1952, she went to work as a food processor for Oxnard Frozen Foods, and retired after 22 years of employment in 1974. In 1977 Dorothy moved to Ventura.
She enjoyed lunch, special trips and new friends she met at the Ventura Senior Center. She enjoyed visiting local restaurants, especially those serving "mashed potatoes and gravy." Dorothy had a great sense of humor and enjoyed being with people.
She was a member of the Tri-County Teamsters Retirees and a member of Teamsters for over 50 years. She was past president of Ventura Grandmother's Club.
