Dorothy Fultz Obituary

Dorothy Fultz, 101, of Ventura, passed away peacefully in her sleep Sunday, Oct. 31, 2010. She was born June 20, 1909, to Solomon and Augusta Kight in Ortenville, Minn., and had been a resident of Ventura for 73 years.

Dorothy was one of six children who lived on an island where her family ran a farming and fishing business. At a young age Dorothy worked alongside her brothers on the family farm. In 1935, she came to Ventura County and two years later married Ervie Fultz, a local rancher. She was a housewife raising two daughters, Doris and Evelyn, as well as a step-daughter, Jessie. In later years Dorothy worked at Oxnard Pearl Laundry retiring after 20 years.

In 1952, she went to work as a food processor for Oxnard Frozen Foods, and retired after 22 years of employment in 1974. In 1977 Dorothy moved to Ventura.

She enjoyed lunch, special trips and new friends she met at the Ventura Senior Center. She enjoyed visiting local restaurants, especially those serving "mashed potatoes and gravy." Dorothy had a great sense of humor and enjoyed being with people.

She was a member of the Tri-County Teamsters Retirees and a member of Teamsters for over 50 years. She was past president of Ventura Grandmother's Club.

Dorothy is survived by daughters, Doris Fickel and her partner Elmar Manibo of Signal Hill and Evelyn Rowden of Ventura; step-daughter, Jessie White of Thousand Oaks; grandchildren, Ryan Carino and his partner Becky Zimmerman, Marisa Carino, Steven White, Kelly White and Karen Filimon; great-grandchildren, Janice Santos, Johnny Pittman-Carino, Andy Zimmerman, Jake Zimmerman and Heather Montao; great-great-grandson, James Merle.

Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be truly missed. She taught us great lessons that will be a part of our memories.

The family wishes to thank Johnnieann Bushnell, her special caregiver, and Assisted Hospice for the loving care they extended to mother during her brief illness.

Visitation will take place 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura, followed by a graveside service at 1:30 p.m., Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Valentine Rd., Ventura. The Reverend Dan Hull will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home. Condolences may be left at www.TedMayrFuneralHome.com.
