H. Fenger Obituary

H. Steven Fenger, 59, died on Oct. 4, 2010. He passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side in Thousand Oaks, following a courageous, 9-year battle with cancer.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 10, at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks-Griffin, 5600 Lindero Canyon Rd., Westlake Village, CA 91362. A memorial service will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 11, at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks-Griffin. Father Peter from St. Jude's Catholic Church will officiate.

He was born June 5, 1951, in Queens, N.Y., to Harro and Alice Fenger. He attended college at the University of Rhode Island where he obtained his bachelors degree in chemical engineering. Steve and Peggy married and moved to Southern California 31 years ago and raised their three children, Tracy, Joelle, and Peter. Steve's passion for chemical engineering fueled his successful 35-year career in the aerospace industry working at Hughes Aircraft, Raytheon, and Draper Laboratories.

After his retirement, his love of traveling brought him and Peggy to Massachusetts where they spent two years adventuring and cheering for the Red Sox in the city of Boston. Following their return to Thousand Oaks, Steve devoted his energy to his hobbies, which included tending to his rose garden, taking in music, art and theater showings, enjoying his photograph collections, and stamp collecting. Above all, Steve was the ultimate sports fan and loved rooting with his family and friends for his hometown Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Jets.

Steve is survived by his loving wife, Peggy; their three children, Tracy Deeds, Dr. Joelle Fenger, and Peter Steven Fenger; son-in-law, Tyler Deeds; mother, Alice; and sister-in-law, Lisa.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harro Fenger, and his brother, Robert Fenger.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Steve's memory to: Vitas Hospice Charitable Fund, 16830 Ventura Blvd., Suite 315, Encino, CA 91436.
