It is with profound sadness that we announce John Engle Mosby passed away on November 20, 2012.

John, also known to his family as "Mumpy", was the beloved son of Johnny and Jonie Mosby of Ventura California. He was a graduate of Buena High School in 1988.

During his high school years John discovered his passion for theater and acting. He starred in numerous plays including One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, The Robber Bridegroom, Little Shop of Horrors, and A Christmas Carol. John loved being on stage. He found acting to be fun and exciting, thriving in the family atmosphere of the cast. He joined The Plaza Players Theater Group where he continued to hone his acting skills. He starred alongside his father, John Sr., in the Ventura College Production of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.

In 1989, John attended Pepperdine University, where his love for the arts grew. He continued to act, starring in numerous plays and musicals, allowing him to showcase his strong singing voice. While at Pepperdine, John became the host of his own Radio Show. In 1993, John graduated from Pepperdine earning a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Communication and Media Studies specializing in Mass Communication Law, Media (both radio and TV), and Drama. John lived his life to the fullest, always positive, funny, and loved to laugh. He disliked any type of conflict, unless it was a good debate.

John was an avid sports fan, never missing a chance to attend a Dodgers game with his family or friends. He enjoyed being around people and had a generous heart. He often made donations to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA.)

Following in the family tradition, he developed a great passion for music. Frequently he could be found on stage singing at a local night club. He loved attending concerts and it gave him great pleasure to share them with his nieces and nephews. This made him everyone's all-around favorite uncle.

John appreciated all types of movies and became a well-respected movie critic. As a card carrying member of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) he never missed a movie premier or first showing. John had an ongoing tradition of attending a movie on the evenings of Thanksgiving and Christmas. To honor him, his family will continue with this tradition.

On November 13, 2012, John married his girlfriend Mary Shubert.

He is survived by Mary; her sons Nathan and Chris; and his three beloved cats: Molly, Mookie and Shady. He is also survived by his parents: Johnny Mosby and Jonie Mosby Mitchell, step-father, Donald Mitchell. Brothers and sisters: Tammy, Tracy, Lindy (Loren), Sydney, Candy, Randy and Morgan, and his many loving nieces and nephews: Casey, Colby, Natalie, Tanner, Megan, Morgan, and great nephew: Mason.

John will be infinitely missed by all who knew him. He will remain in our hearts and memories forever.
