John Metzner Obituary

Dec. 14, 1921- Oct. 10, 2010

Our father passed away at the stroke of midnight on 10-10-10 just 36 hours after a massive stroke.

John Metzner was born in North Dakota to Frank and Mary Metzner in 1921. He moved to Ventura County in 1957, settling in the Ojai Valley where he would remain until the early 1980s, and currently resided in Oxnard until his death. Our father served in the AirCorps, and met and married our mother in 1945. He was employed in oil production for ARCO at the Rincon Island where he retired after 30 plus years. He continued to work part-time until just last year.

In later years, he filled his time with photography. He was a member of East Star and a Shriner where he worked to raise funds for the Crippled Children's Hospital.

We would like to thank Roman Kirby for being first on the scene to assist our father and direct the emergency medical response team. We would also like to thank VCMC, who made our father's last hours peaceful as well as comforting our family by being attentive and available 100%, especially the E.R. and ICU doctors, nurses and supporting staff.

He is survived by his partner and friend, Angie Cuevas, and his children: Matt Metzner, Susan Metzner, Sandra Metzner and Mark Metzner. Also his grandchildren, Raedon Adair, Vanessa Metzner-Vasquez, Neil Metzner, Kyle Metzner and Mikayla Metzner, and great-grandchildren, Isaac Vasquez and the newest little member of the family and the first "girl" great-grandchild, Sophia, who never had a chance to get to know her great-grandfather John, but his blood stream runs strong through them all and is evident. We have seen God at work this day and pray and give thanks for our father's peaceful passing and a lifetime of memories. He will be dearly missed.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 14 at the Lutheran Redeemer Church at 721 Doris Street in Oxnard, followed by a reception.

Arrangements are by Coast Cities Cremations, Ventura.
