Joseph Powers, beloved friend, brother, and uncle passed away suddenly on January 6th after a tragic bicycle accident.
Born March 5, 1962, Joe grew up in Ventura County. He attended Hueneme High School, then Universal Technical Institute in Arizona, where he earned his degree and became a Refrigeration Technician. He worked for Ventura Unified School District. His passions were his friends, cycling, baking and his two Dalmatians. Joe loved to joke with and found his purpose in helping others. He was a gentleman: kind and respectful to all.
He leaves behind his brothers: Virgil, Charles and James; sisters: Henrietta, Cora, Estella and Betty; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Bill and Jan. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Robert, and niece, Tiffany. Anyone who knew Joe will greatly miss him. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan.15 at St. Pauls Episcopal Church, Kahler Hall, 3290 Loma Vista Rd, Ventura.

I am so glad to hear that Joe never changed. He always had a smile for everyone. That is how he earned the nickname "Smiley Joe". We shared many memories and adventures with our friends in high school. The world is alittle less bright without him in it. May all our hearts be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times spent with Joe as we celebrate a life well lived.
