Laura Dennison Obituary

Our beautiful daughter, mother, sister and aunt, Laurie died tragically at UCLA Medical Center on Nov. 26, 2010 after multiple medical issues that plagued her over the past 3 years.

Laurie was born Sept. 17, 1960 in Ventura. She attended Ventura High School and graduated in 1978. She attended Harding Christian University for a short period before marrying Linn Dennison in 1980.

After working as a manager for Wendy's for nine years, she went back to obtain her education at Ventura College and received a degree in nursing in 1996. Her classmates admired her and she often helped tutor them through much of their RN courses. She worked as an RN in the Southern California area from 1996 until 2007.

Laurie attended the Ventura Church of Christ for over 35 years. After being baptized into Christ at the age of 10, Laurie renewed her commitment to the Lord at Yosemite Bible Camp in the summer of 2005. The Ventura Church was extremely helpful in nurturing and loving Laurie throughout her struggles.

Laurie leaves behind her sons, Jonathan Dennison and Matthew Dupree. She was preceded in death by her father, Jim Hodges. She is survived by her mother, Deanna Hodges; her siblings, Jimmy, Cindy and Sherry; her nephews, Jimmy, Marshall and Ben; brother-in-law, Eddie Ewald; her cousins, Mary, Betty and Bill Hodges; her uncles, Bill Hodges, Jr., and Jim Dukas.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 16 at the Ventura Church of Christ. The address is 3401 Bryn Mawr, Ventura. Everyone is welcome to stay for a memorial celebration meal after the service and reminisce over the great memories we have of Laurie's life!

Special thanks to Dr. Javier Romero, you NEVER gave up on Laura! Thank you to Dr. Evan Slater who was always intricate in her care with cancer. To Dr. Andrew Kerr and his STAFF, the family cannot express the gratitude that we feel in your care for Laurie! You were her angels! May God bless you for all of your efforts to make her life healthy and happy. Dr. Kerr we love you and are indebted to you for all that you have done for our family over all these years.

Laurie was as a daughter to me and I mourn her passing with great sadness. I had the joy of knowning her all her life and the honor of being her (adopted) father. May she be free now of all the suffering she endured and eternally loved in the presence of our Lord.
