Randy Shields Obituary

Randy Shields, retired California Highway Patrol Officer, succumbed to a long battle with a work related illness on Nov. 27, 2010 at UCLA Medical Center, with his wife and daughters by his side. He was 55 years old.

Randy grew up in Simi Valley and attended Royal High School, graduating in 1973. He worked in construction with his father, brothers, uncles, and cousins and was a superb carpenter. He finished his career with the CHP as an Investigator. He retired to Shasta County in May of 2002.

He enjoyed construction projects, restoring old vehicles, boating, camping, fishing, traveling, exploring, and spending time with his family. He was a mentor, an amateur inventor, a modern day philosopher, and an entrepreneur. He was loved by everyone that met him. He will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone that had the privilege of knowing him.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Larna and Harry Shields.

He is survived by his wife, Alicia; his daughters, Laree and Jenni Shields; his son-in-law, Mike Hammer; his step-children, Jack, Stephanie, and Shanna Stephens; his grandchildren, Ashlee, Matthew, and Cianna; his siblings, Scott, Brett, Craig, and MLisa Shields; his many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

When I came upon info about your passing on line some 12 years later, I couldn't believe it. So full of life and love during the time I was lucky enough to hang with the Shields family. So many happy and valued memories of water ski trips, at the county line, cruisin', donuts in the parking lot, that red Chevelle and so much more. RIP Randy, honor and respect forever, Patti

Randy was a great officer, and a better friend, and I was sadden to hear of his passing. His passing will leave a void in the CHP family, and loss to his family, and those knew him. I was honored to have known him, and worked with him for so many years. Our career paths took varied paths, but our paths always crossed. Randy was a gentleman, and an honest man, who cared about others first. I will miss my friend. He is 10-10 with us, but 10-97 with God.
