Ray Eckebrecht passed away peacefully on Friday, Nov. 26, 2010, at the age of 86. He was born on April 14, 1924, in Chicago, Ill.
Ray served in the Army during World War II. After returning home Ray and his wife Ruth raised their family in Chicago until they retired to Ventura in 1979. Ray was a talented artist and wood carver who shared his gifts with family and friends.
He was a lifelong enthusiast of music and dancing, even up to his final days you could find Ray dancing while holding on to his walker. Ray enjoyed participating and watching many sports including bowling, baseball (Cubs, of course!) and speed skating.
Ray was a loving husband of 35 years to his Ruth, who preceded him in death in 1986, and a caring father to his two daughters, Karen Roth (Steve) and Kris Sawyer (Mark); beloved "Papa" to six grandchildren, Amy Grob (Danny), Eileen Guettler (Jeff), Sara McGuire (Ian), Maggie Sawyer, Andrew Sawyer and Charlie Sawyer; "Big Papa" to five great-grandchildren, Hannah, Avery, Lucas, William and Zachery. A private family celebration of Ray's life will take place later in the month.

My condolences to the Roth and Sawyer families.
I have fond memories of Uncle Ray and your family as we grew up -block parties in Brookfield, 4th of July parades, rhubarb pie, and Sunday dinners at Grandpa's.
