Reynold Johnson, a longtime resident of Thousand Oaks, passed away peacefully on Nov. 9, 2010, after a lengthy illness. He was born to Carl and Katherine Johnson on Oct. 14, 1932, in the City of Los Angeles.
Reynold is survived by his five children - Robert Johnson, Michael Johnson, Debra Oeffling, Ken and Rose Johnson, and William Johnson -- plus several grandchildren. He is survived by his three sisters -- Clara Johnson, Stellita Johnson, and Laverne Cuccia.
Reynold served with the U.S. Coast Guard during the Korean War. He was very proud to serve his country and was involved in numerous rescue missions. In 1959 Reynold and his wife Gerri moved to Thousand Oaks to start their family. He enjoyed a successful career developing laser technology as an engineer with Hughes Aerospace and Caltech. Reynold was proud to contribute to our fine community by serving the Boy Scouts as a troop leader, and he initiated a troop for handicap boys. Reynold founded the Conejo Soccer Club 76 and he was deeply involved with AYSO from its beginnings in the Conejo Valley.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made in Reynold's name to Vitas Hospice, for the outstanding care and comfort they provided our father and to many others in need.
The family would especially like to thank hospice caregiver Ronnie Jean Parkhurst for her commitment. Reynold Johnson will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 13 at St. Julie Billiart Catholic Church located at 2475 Borchard Road in Newbury Park. Followed by interment at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Cemetery at 5600 Lindero Canyon Road in Westlake Village.

I was a colleague of Reynold while at HRL Labs. He was a very kind man and a joy to chat with over the years. I have fond memories of him and will miss him. With my deepest sympathy to his family,
