Richard L. Cooksey, 69, of Dawsonville died Friday, Sept. 17, 2010 at his residence following a period of declining health.
Born April 4, 1941 in Ashland, Ky., to the late James Ernest and Foew Adell Cooksey, he had lived in Dawsonville for five years having moved from Camarillo. Mr. Cooksey was a retired mechanical engineer with D.A.C. with 12 years of service and was employed for many years with the 3M Company. He was a U. S. Air Force veteran and was an avid hardcore golfer.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Cathryn Cathy Cooksey, Dawsonville; sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Lynda Cooksey, Dawsonville, Danny and Teresa Cooksey, Dawsonville; stepmother, Grace Adkins, Ashland, Ky.; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Patty Cooksey, Kentucky; granddaughter, Trista Tenney; great-grandsons, Taye Wilburn, Kyan Wilburn; nephew, Troy Cooksey; niece, Cynthia Cooksey Schrand.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday Oct. 9, at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the service hour. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Childrens Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942. Condolences may be sent to www.beardenfuneralhome.com. Terry, Lynda & the entire Cooksey family, Please accept our heart felt condolences in the passing of your Dad. Terry, you shared the story of his final day, at home, surrounded by his loving family. My prayers and thoughts are with all of Dick's family during this time of sorrow. I worked with Dick at 3M and I am a better person because of that experience. I saw Dick only occasionally after he left the company but he always had a kind word and a smile when we'd meet. God Bless you all, Rest in God's Peace Richard!
