Robert Douglas Brandsberg, 82, passed peacefully from this world on Sat., Dec. 4, 2010, in Garner, N.C. Robert was a devout Christian and an unwavering civil servant.
Born April 11, 1928, in Butte County, South Dakota, at 17 Robert joined the Marines. Then he completed his education in mathematics and chemistry at the Univ. of Minnesota. From 1957 to 1989, Roberts's outstanding accomplishments in computer science, navigation, radar and space technology, and digital communications contributed significantly to the technological development and defense of our nation.
After retiring in October 1989, Robert and his wife Frances sailed their 48-ft ketch south to the Panama Canal and eastward to their final destination of New Bern, N.C., where they lived happily for many years.
Roberts passing was in the company of his children, Robert, Jr., and spouse Laura, as they were reading the Psalms and holding hands with the surety of Gods blessings.
He is survived by his loving children and their families: Deborah Janiece Brandsberg-Tomasi, Lisa Brandsberg-Livingston, Bruce Brandsberg, Heidi Brandsberg-Frank, Dale Brandsberg, and Robert Brandsberg, Jr., Robin Geiger, Chris Atkiss, 12 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Roberts memory to Brices Church Food Pantry, a food program to help the hungry of New Bern. Memorial Service: Friday, Dec. 10, 3 p.m. at Brice's Creek Bible Church, 3998 US Hwy 70, New Bern, NC 28560.
