On Nov. 15, 2010, Rose I. (DiNucci) Wunderlich, 82, passed away peacefully at the Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hay Springs, Neb., after battling a long illness of Alzheimer's.
Rose (Rosalia) was born on Nov. 11, 1928, in Portland, Ore., to Carlo and Frances DiNucci. Rose grew up in Portland, Ore., graduating from Commerce (Cleveland) High School in 1946 where she was the Student Body Vice-President. After graduating, Rose worked as a secretary for the City of Portland at City Hall.
On July 24, 1954, Rose married her loving husband, John P. Wunderlich, and moved to "sunny" California. Rose worked for the Ventura College Admissions Office and the Ventura County School District retiring in June 1991 as the Buena High School Principal's Secretary.
You would always see Rose at the Buena High School Girls Basketball games as she was a big fan! Rose enjoyed golfing, gardening, bird watching, sewing, traveling and dancing. She was known by her friends to have the "best home-grown navel oranges" in town.
Rose enjoyed volunteering as a Pink Lady at Community Memorial Hospital and the Ventura Police Department. She also belonged to the Assumption Church Ladies YLI for many years. Rose moved to Hay Springs, Neb., so she would be close to her daughter, Julie, and great-granddaughter, Arielle, as the Alzheimer's disease progressed. Rose was a loving wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Rose was a beautiful and classy lady who will truly be missed by all. Rose was preceded in death by her husband, John P. Wunderlich; her mother and father, Carl and Frances DiNucci; brothers, Joe (whom she called "the Italian Stallion") and John DiNucci. Rose's survivors include daughter, Julie Lawrence (Jeff Lawrence); grandchildren, Jennifer Nielsen (Chadwick Nielsen) and Jeffrey Brandt; great-granddaughter who is "her special little angel," Arielle Stallings; Rose's sister, Carmela Smith; Rose's mother-in-law, Bernice Wunderlich; and many nieces and nephews.
The family wants to especially thank ALL the wonderful caretakers and nursing home staff for their kindness and warm heartfelt caring during those tough years. It was those individuals who made it possible for Rose to have a peaceful and beautiful life till the end. Services will be held in Ventura at a later date (to be announced). In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Alzheimer's Association, www.alz.org .

To all of Mrs. Wunderlich's family, I am very sorry for your loss. I will always remember her smiling face at the Buena High School attendance window and how funny she though it was that I could write my own excuse notes! She was a wonderful lady who was always kind and considerate. Loren Dacanay BHS 1979

To Julie & Family
I was really saddened to read of Rose's passing. I was good friends
w/ Rose when she was Mr. Shanahan's secretary at Buena H.S. Her desk was right across from mine at the Info Area. Newly hired, I was constantly bugging her for HELP! And she most graciously always helped me out. I loved her for that. And her sense of humor. She was an incredible role model & I admired her greatly. When I later left the position, I know she was the one who organized my going away party & gift ~ a gorgeous shoulder scarf that I still have & that still ranks as one of my favorites. Stylish & classy, that was Rose; & to the last I'm sure! Just know that she loved you w/ all her heart; I could hear it in her words & see it in her eyes. You were both blessed. I pray for you & your family that healing will come, maybe slowly, but ever steadily.
Most sincerely, Shirly Ukena ( Hamann )
