Roy Edward Fowler was born July 5, 1938 in West Point, Miss., and passed away peacefully in his sleep Nov. 4, 2010.
A Port Hueneme resident since 1967, he is survived by his loving wife of 46 years Lucille, as well as his brothers, James, Joe and Andrew Fowler of West Point, Miss.; his daughters, Dottie Dordon (husband Nick Dordon of Grants Pass, Ore.), Darnell Richardson (husband Peter Richardson of Oxnard), as well as son John Steins of San Antonio, Texas. In addition, Roy is survived by 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and his ever faithful Chihuahua Sophie.
He was preceded in death by parents, John and Mary Fowler; sister, Johnette Edridge; and daughter, Ethel Bennett (husband Tony Bennett of Bakersfield).
Roy was a highly decorated UTC in the Navy who, during his 30 years of service, had a variety of tour assignments that included two in Vietnam and Antarctica. Following his retirement from the military, Roy continued his career at the Simi Valley Waste Water Treatment Plant for 17 years. His witty charm and warm personality will be truly missed by his countless family and friends.
A viewing is scheduled for 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, as well as Wednesday, Nov. 10, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Funeraria Del Angel, 401 West Channel Islands Blvd. in Oxnard. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10; burial to immediately follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Valentine Road in Ventura.

Dear Dear Roy, we had such great times growing up in the Mississippi Delta. There have not been any days like the 50s since that time. Mama Ethel;, the cotton patch and Bethel Baptist Church. Roy has been a member a of our City of Simi Valley Sanitation family for 17 yeqrs. He was hard working, and a great part of the Maintenance team. His contribution and work in the Laboratory and the Plant has been greatly appreciated. We will miss him dearly.
