William McMorran Obituary
William Trett McMorran (Bill) passed away Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010 at his home in Thousand Oaks, following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 81 years old.
Bill was born July 2, 1929 in Syracuse, N.Y., and was the son of John Burch McMorran and Ruth Trett McMorran. He was educated at Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he was affiliated with Sigma Nu fraternity and Illinois Institute of Technology where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Product Design in 1953. Bill then served in the United States Air Force Tactical Air Command until 1957 when he returned to New York to pursue graduate studies at Syracuse University. He worked as a Mechanical Engineer in the Aerospace Industry for 33 years.
Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kay Dale McMorran; by son, Thomas McMorran; by daughter, Elizabeth Dale Schetina and son-in-law Gregory Schetina; by son, Andrew McMorran and daughter-in-law AnnaLisa des Prez; and by three grandchildren, Samuel, Catherine and Matthew Schetina. He is also survived by his brother, John McMorran of Boulder, Colo., and several nieces and nephews.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 17 at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks-Griffin Chapel in Westlake Village, with internment to follow. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Uncle Bill was never big on the 'Uncle' title. Must be a McMorran thing. He taught us how to make arrowheads from shards of glass with an awl and a piece of inner tube rubber to protect our hands from the tiny pieces of glass we chipped off with the awl. We made some very authentic looking arrowheads - even if they were more transparent than any the original users had.
I remember staying with Bill and Kay at their house when I came to California in pursuit of a girl. Remembering their patience and caring light touch still makes me smile. I know now Bill must have been laughing at me the whole time. But he only showed concern and sympathy.
