Venice Shaw

Newbury Park, CA

Venice Shaw peacefully went home to be with the Lord on August 9, 2016. Grace Venice was born in Pasadena, CA, to William C. and Anna Hesser on January 15, 1911. She graduated from San Fernando High School in 1929 and married Lewis Hutchens in 1933. She lived in Glendale, CA from 1940 until moving to Newbury Park to 2009.

Venice was known and loved for her ready warm smile, her sweetness, and the way she made her immediate and extended families--as well as so many others--feel loved and cared about. She regularly worshipped God, most recently at Ascension Lutheran in Thousand Oaks, where she also attended Lunch Bunch and Bible Study. Throughout her life, Venice also enjoyed participating in women's organizations, crafts, camping, and playing card and board games. Her gingerbread boy cookies were a very special delight for family and friends.

Venice is preceded in death by her beloved parents, identical twin Inez Harries, brother Edward Hesser, first husband Samuel Lewis Hutchens, second husband Edward F. Shaw, and grandson David Bartlett. She loved and was dearly loved by her daughter Bonnie Hutchens Bartlett, son-in-law Philip Bartlett, grandchildren Stephen (Desir?e) Bartlett, Rev. Scott (Alia) Bartlett, Joyce Bartlett Spencer, and Jennifer Stauffer Bartlett, and 6 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Venice's life with be held at 3 pm on Sunday, August 28, 2016, at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1600 E. Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Lutheran World Relief (LWR.org), Ascension Lutheran Foundation (ascensionfoundation.org), or Comfort Zone Camp--free camp for children grieving the loss of a parent or sibling (comfortzonecamp.org).
