SYCAMORE – Elaine Powers, 93, of Sycamore, Ill., died on Monday, June 24, 2013, at DeKalb County Rehab & Nursing Center, DeKalb.|
Born May 29, 1920, in Kirkland, to Walter G. and Inez L. (Helwig) Miner, Elaine graduated from Sycamore High School in 1938 and attended Northern Illinois University Teachers College. She married Frank Barber Powers on Oct. 17, 1947. Elaine retired in 1977 from Sycamore School District where she worked in administration for 17 years. She was a member of Sycamore Business and Professional Woman's Club; DeKalb Junior Woman's Club; Sycamore United Methodist Church; and Naomi-Lois Church Circle.
She is survived by two granddaughters, Kathleen (Lars) Flint Ehm of Port Jefferson Station, N.Y., and Bethany (Mark Ditzel) Flint of Bend, Ore.; four great-grandchildren, Anika Groener, Sophie Groener, Jane Ditzel and Finn Ehm; son-in-law, Mike Flint; brother, William W. (Lois) Miner of Resida, Calif.; and several nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
She was preceded by her parents; husband, Frank B. Powers on June 13, 1994; daughter, Susan Elaine Flint on July 7, 2002; and three sisters, Ruth Collins, Anita J. Niewold and Wanda Byers.
Elaine was loved and will be missed by everyone who knew her. The family offers special thanks to DeKalb County Rehab & Nursing Center and DeKalb County Hospice for their compassion and care.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 20, at Sycamore United Methodist Church, 160 Johnson Ave., Sycamore.
