DeKALB – O. Ruth Cook, 79, of DeKalb, Ill., died Saturday, May 18, 2013, at home.|
Born April 1, 1934, in Topeka, Kan., the daughter of Arthur and Treva (Boring) Scott, Ruth married Gerald L. Cook on May 19, 1954, in Springfield.
She was formerly employed by Stubbs and Mary's Green Acres, both of Maple Park, and General Electric, Spaulding's and Brody Coats, all of DeKalb. She enjoyed reading and gardening and was an avid seamstress.
She is survived by her children, Linda (Dick) Hyde, Gerald J. Cook and Mary Cook, all of DeKalb, Debra Marlow and Tina Cook, both of Tennessee, and David Cook of Rochelle; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald, in 2005; daughter, Carolyn Ann Whitmire in 2013; sisters, Doris Anderson and Joyce Gittleson; and brothers, Dean and Roger Scott.
The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 23, at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb, with the Rev. Kenneth Anderson officiating. Cremation will follow at Anderson Funeral Home Crematory, with burial of cremated remains Friday afternoon at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, DeKalb. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, at Anderson Funeral Home.
