Joe Felipe Obituary

Joe C. Felipe Joe was born on July 23, 1929, to Ida (Costa) and Jose Felipe in Tulare, CA, the eldest of 3 children. As a young boy, Joe's family moved several times, living in Artesia, Tulare, then settling in rural Tulare where they operated a dairy farm. During this time, Joe attended Tulare Union High School where he was involved in football, track, and played trumpet in the marching band. Joe excelled at track including the 880-yard relay event in which he and his teammates (Bob Abercrombie, Bob Hoegh, and Bob Mathias) won the Valley Championship in 1948. In 1948 Joe married his high school sweetheart, Lucy Montiero; they were blessed with six children-5 daughters and one son. They lived and worked the family dairy farm. In 1956, he lost his wife and infant daughter, the result of a traffic accident. In 1961, Joe married Marjorie Picanso; three years later the family was blessed again with another son. In 1967, Joe and Marjorie moved their family and dairy to Lemoore, where they continued to operate the dairy farm for many years. Joe later worked in compost and hay sales. There are many who remember him visiting their farm with "candy hay" for the kids. He was also a past Director of the Kings County Farm Bureau. Bowling was one of Joe's favorite hobbies and he and Marjorie bowled for many years on leagues in Tulare and Hanford. He also loved reading about and riding in airplanes, at one time aspiring to become a pilot by taking flying lessons in high school. He always looked forward to his rides in vintage airplanes. Joe was a long-time active member of the Lemoore Trinity Association, and was very proud to have been involved in the building of the "new" LTA Hall. A long-time member of the Festa Committee, he especially enjoyed "making the rounds" each year to collect for the Lemoore Trinity Celebration, and was a friend to so many people who looked forward to his visits each year. In 2010 he was co-president of the Festa Committee with his son Bob. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. Joe's children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the pride and joy of his life; they brought him so much happiness. He enjoyed for many years attending all their various activities. His most cherished times were the many family gatherings held at the family home in Lemoore and the homes of his children. Joe died January 27 of complications relating to Parkinson's Disease. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, Marjorie, his wife of 51 years; children Lucy and Larry Jones and Bob and Lara Felipe, Lemoore; Judy and Gary Mello, Hanford; and Sue and Larry Luiz and Kathy and Rick Taylor, Tulare; Grandchildren Mathew (Jennifer) Jones, Sara Jones, Liz Jones; Kim Murphy, Kevin (Dorothy) Luiz, Kelsie (Zach) Woody; Bryan (Michelle) Mello, Phillip (Cybil) Mello, Mark (Crystal) Mello, Tracy (Duncan) Reid; Tommy (Jana) Batista, Jennifer Vander Tuig, Billy Cooper; Joseph, Anna, Anthony, Robert and Patience Felipe; 40 great-grandchildren; and sister, Dollie (Manuel) Faria of Tipton. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Lucy Montiero, an infant daughter Ida Felipe, a son Joey Felipe, and a brother Jack Felipe. The family would like to acknowledge and thank the many special people at Hanford Rehabilitation and Nursing Home who took such loving care of our husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. We are extremely grateful for their genuine kindness and gentle care of Joe and our family. The Viewing will be held on Thursday, February 7, 4-6 p.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Lemoore, followed by recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter's Church Friday, February 8th, at 10 a.m. A reception will follow at Lemoore Trinity Hall, 470 Champion St., Lemoore. Interment will be at 3 p.m. at Tulare District Cemetery, 900 East Kern Ave., Tulare. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church, Building Fund, 870 N. Lemoore Ave., Lemoore, and/or the Lemoore Trinity Association, PO Box 692, Lemoore, CA 93245. Arrangements are under the direction of Phipps-Dale Funeral Chapel in Lemoore.

Not sure what to say?

Daddy, today makes one month already since you went to be with Jesus! Time has gone to fast, every Wednesday & Friday I have to remind myself that you won't be coming to stay with me for the day. You are and were the most amazing man! You were everything to your family, the one we all want to be like. I look at your picture and it still does not seem real that you are gone. I have now realized because of your passing, how short and quickly fleeting life is. We have seen many go before us, but this, your passing has opened my eyes to the reality that life is so short. Not that any others were not fully sad and devastating, but You were My Dad! I believe Jesus has His hand out waiting for each of us to find all He has for us in His Word. I pray non go without finding Jesus and His Gift for Eternal Life. I Love You Daddy. Rest pain free in the Loving Arms of Jesus! Until we meet, in the beautiful fields of Heaven, I will miss you, but I will remember you as I watch all the family living and honoring You, Daddy, Vo Vo Visa Vo Vo and of course Joe Felipe! I am so proud to be the daughter of Joe Felipe! Blessing, Love Your Daughter Judy Felipe Mello
