Antonio Toste Carvalho Antonio Toste Carvalho went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 27th, 2013. Antonio was born to Jose and Maria de Jesus Carvalho on March 25, 1934 in Santo Amaro, Ribeirinha, on the island of Terceira, Azores. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Elvira Teixeira Carvalho, his son Anthony (Sharon) Carvalho and his daughter Linda (David) Carvalho Cooley all of Hanford. Antonio was blessed with 7 grandchildren Renee (Chad) Nielsen, Allison (Josh) Cordero both from Armona, & Marisa Carvalho from Hanford. Brigid (Ryan) Lohoff from Sherman Oaks, Ca, David Silva from Los Angeles, Ca, Justina Silva from Santa Barbara, Ca & Dustin Silva from Hanford. Antonio also had two great grandchildren Cohen and Adelynn Nielsen both from Armona. Antonio also leaves behind two sisters Alice Menezes, Noemia Di Trani and a sister-in-law Mary Carvalho all from Canada and a niece, Irene (Luciano) Couto, from Canada. Antonio also leaves behind a brother-in-law Nazarius (Donna) Teixeira from Washington and a sister-in-law Leona Teixeira from Hanford along with his nieces and nephews Shawn (Tracy) Teixeira, Jeannie (Steven) Teixeira McKnight both from Washington and Carl Teixeira from Hanford. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Joe Carvalho, his brother-in- law Carl Teixeira and his nephews Victor Menezes, Joey & Eric Teixeira. Antonio immigrated first to Canada and then to the US in 1959. Antonio and Elvira made their home in Hanford where he worked at Lemon Brothers Chevrolet as a mechanic. He worked his way up to sales and remained with the auto dealership as it changed names ending with Roberts Chevrolet. In 1976 he opened his own insurance agency on 10th Ave where he worked as a Notary Public, sold insurance, helped people with their American citizenship, prepared income taxes and sold air travel. Antonio was best known as a radio broadcaster for the Portuguese community. He began Portuguese Radio Broadcasting in 1964 and had two programs Portugal Terra de Fe and Echoes of the Azores which were on local radio stations in Kings and Tulare County. Antonio was a member of St. Brigid's Catholic Church and was actively involved in Catholic organizations such as Our Lady of Fatima, St. Anthony and St. John Celebration committees. He organized the Daughters of Mary and Rainha St. Isabel prayer groups. The family expresses their deepest gratitude to Octaviano Camargo who was Antonio's caregiver for the last 6 years. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will take place on Friday, February 1st at 6:30 pm at Whitehurst McNamara Funeral Chapel. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 2nd at 10 am at St. Brigid's Catholic Church in Hanford, Ca. Internment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family is asking that donations be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society or St. Brigid's Church 200 E. Florinda St. Hanford, Ca. 93230.
