Betty Starr

Betty Jean Starr Betty Jean Starr, 83, a long-time resident of Upland, CA and San Pedro, CA was called to Heaven on January 11, 2013. Betty was born on May 3, 1929 in Hartford, Arkansas to Phillip and Mary Lena Slankard. Betty moved to California at the age of 13, when she was 16 she met her first husband Richard Hall. They married a year later and had two sons, Timothy and Bart. In 2002 she moved from Upland to San Pedro to be closer to her two sisters. In June of 2012 Betty moved to Tulare, CA., and lived with her oldest son, Timothy and his wife Cheryl, up until they time of her passing. Betty will be remembered for many wonderful attributes. She was very proud of her two sons. Everyone from the local vet., deli manager, dog groomers and bowling team knew all about her family. The love she had for her five grandchildren and eight great grandchilden was beautiful. When you spent time with grandma, you were treated like kings and queens. Betty was an avid bowler and belonged to many bowling leagues through the years. We are pretty sure her bowling ball weighed more than she did! Betty was a bargain hunter, yard sales as well as estate sales were great fun for her. When a new 'Target' was built blocks away from her home, she was super excited. Her all time favorite place to shop was 'Steinmart' with 'Trader Joe's' being a close second. Betty was a true animal lover especially to dogs, she had a few companions that stole her heart. Betty was a beautiful lady inside and out. She will be missed by all who loved her deeply. Our rejoicing comes from knowing that she is dancing with Jesus and having a reunion with her family in Heaven. We are forever grateful for our time with such a gracious lady. Her laugh can still be heard and her smile will remain with us. Betty is survived by her two sons Timothy Lee Hall of Tulare and Bart Eugene Hall of Littlerock, CA, along with her two daughters in laws, Cheryl and Sue Hall. Betty is also survived by five grandchildren; Justin Hall of West Sacramento, Jenny Arteaga of Strathmore, Patrick Hall of Tulare, Sarah Hall of Littlerock, CA and Amanda of Littlerock. She is also survived by eight great grandchildren; Cole, Madison, Ethan, Seth Matthew, Mackenzie, Max and Emma. Private memorial service may be held at a later date. Burial at Green Hills Memorial Park, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. Arrangements by Salser and Dillard Funeral Chapel. Condolences may be e-mailed to info@salseranddillard.com
