Charles O. (Chuck) Mainwaring

Charles (Chuck) O. Mainwaring Charles (Chuck) O. Mainwaring passed away June 17, 2014, at the age of 91. He was born in Visalia on November 2, 1922, to Charles R. and Ada May Mainwaring of Visalia. At sixteen, Chuck learned to fly from Sol Sweet. During WWII he enlisted into the Army Air Corps. As a B-17 bomber pilot, he flew thirty-two missions over Germany from July to December 1945, and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross. He married Perle E. Hume of Visalia in 1947. They were married for fifty-two years. The family farmed a variety of crops on their Visalia ranch from 1950 to 1976. Chuck served on the Visalia City School Board for twenty years from 1972 to 1992. He was a member of the Goshen Mounted Police for over 50 years. He also achieved the level of 32nd degree Mason and Scottish Rite. He was preceded in death by his sister Nell, and his wife Perle. He is survived by his sister, Ada Crow. Also surviving are son John Mainwaring, and his wife Debbie, and their three adult sons:, grandson Brian and his wife Mindy, great-granddaughter Charlie and great-grandson, Cooper; grandson Todd and his wife Darcy; and grandson Jeff, all of Dothan, Alabama. Also surviving is son Jim and his wife Barbara-Olivia and their adult children: granddaughter Quinlynn, all of Exeter; step granddaughter Emily Wollenman of Sacramento, CA and step-grandson Jordan Wollenman of Seattle, WA. A celebration of Chuck's life will be held July 12, at the PPAV Hall in Visalia from 2-6 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family recommends remembrances be made to the Wounded Warrior Foundation.
