Donald Bevins

Donald Bevins Donald Bevins, born June 3, 1932 passed away January 8, 2013 following a brief but long-simmering illness. He is survived by daughters Ginger and Susie, his brother Dale, two grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, and his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by the love of his life of 62 years, Betty, whom he lovingly cared for during a long illness. Don worked 42 years at Porterville State Hospital. Following retirement, he worked as a substance abuse counselor, which means he came full circle. Our father was refreshingly open-minded, yet opinionated. He was tolerant yet exasperating, calm yet quick to temper. He was a passionate progressive, never failing to call if there was movement on legislation he supported, especially if related to civil rights. We will miss those conversations and we will miss him. He loved music and played drums and clarinet. He loved gadgets, cars and his family. He was a spiritual explorer his entire life and believed that we all return to the Source. We know he has found his peace. Arrangements will be in the care of the Neptune Society, and he will be returned to the sea with our mother.
