Elmer Monroe Karle Elmer Monroe Karle, age 92, of Visalia went to be with his Lord on July 25, 2013. Elmer was born in Fresno, California where he graduated from Roosevelt high school in 1938. He subsequently earned his degree in engineering from the University of Southern California. Elmer married Roberta Julia Nilmeier on September 6th, 1942. They were married for 70 years. Roberta passed in December of 2012. After college, Elmer worked for Lockheed Vega Aircraft in Burbank, California and entered military service in 1944 where he served aboard the USS Denver as a Quartermaster 3rd Class. After serving his country, Elmer worked for Pacific Telephone Company for 34 years and was a General Manager in Visalia when he retired in 1982. Elmer's career led him and Roberta to live in North Hollywood, Fresno, Pacific Grove, Menlo Park, Mountain View, Carmichael, Dinuba, and Visalia. After retirement, they settled in Visalia where they also kept a vacation home in Shaver Lake. Elmer was active in various service organizations. He served as President of the Dinuba Chamber of Commerce in 1973, President of the Tulare County YMCA from 1966 to 1967, and was a member of his local rotary club
throughout his career. Elmer enjoyed playing golf with friends, spending time in the mountains, and traveling the country with Roberta. Elmer is survived by his sister Duayne Ostergard; daughter Kathleen (Steve) Walker; his grandchildren Jennifer (Adam) Brooks and Michael (Jade) McFadden; and one great granddaughter Audrey Longan. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 3rd at Quail Park Retirement Village located at 4520 West Cypress Avenue in Visalia, California.
